Discuss 93" tall pax wardrobe on capita legs on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. 93" tall pax wardrobe on capita legs - Need help with redesigning your bedroom or planning your PAX or other wardrobe/closet project? Here's the place to be!.
Hi and Welcome to IKEAFANS Redbottle!! Do you want the height or the look of the legs! If it's the height, I recommend building a plywood platform and trimming it out with toekick- without a doubt, safer.
Can anyone else chime in on how Capita works with PAX??
DON"T DO IT!!!! We've had this discussion before - maybe I can find the thread later.
The problem is that Pax is designed and constructed so that the weight of the unit and its contents are carried by the side panels directly down to the floor. If you put legs on the unit - Capita or others - you are transferring the load to the bottom panel of the cabinet, which is not designed to carry that load.

Just taking my inner IKEA geek out for a walk.
hi! thanks for the advice! yes, totally agree that it is unsafe to fix the capita legs on the bottom panel because the load-bearing components of the wardrobe are actually the side panels.
how about this for a modification:
flip the wardrobe upside down... now, the bottom panel is flushed with the side panels and the capita legs could be fixed partly onto the side panels, just like a normal
Akurum
base cabinet... is this method feasible??
Akurum definition
Akurum is the North American equivalent of FAKTUM; that is the fitted, frameless, component kitchen cabinet line, which when paired with door and drawer fronts as well as interior accessories makes up the full kitchen cabinet system.

Are you sayng that you want to put legs on the TOP of the PAX and install it upside down? I really don't think you should do this.
Download the instructions for
Akurum
if you don't have them and compare to PAX- you will see the difference between the way the boxes are built and why Chuck sez "NO!"
Seriously, you don't want this cabinet to collapse on you, your children, your pets or your stuff. Since you've put it together, you know the sides weigh a ton. This is dangerous.
Now- why do you want to make this thing so tall? Tell us what you're trying to achieve and maybe we can help.

oh, my apartment's ceiling height is about 100"... my purpose is to close the 7" gap between the top of the wardrobe and ceiling, and perhaps caulk the remaining gap... i don't like to have dust settling on top of the wardrobe...
You can get it at Home Depot or just about hardware store or lumber yard. There are literally thousands of different kinds. You just need a cheap little miter box and saw (IKEA sells one to cut curtain rods) to get a 90 degree angle, some little finish nails and a little finish hammer. No dust, no death!
