Pax rod OUTSIDE of wardrobe?

Hi, everyone,
I was wondering if it would be possible to use pax wardrobes on either end of my walk in MBR closet and the clothes rod from wardrobe to wardrobe instead of inside. Also when installing them does the baseboard need to be removed?
Any and all help appreciated!! K.

I did this in my closet. I have the pax in the middle and rods attached to either side going to the wall. I ended up just going to Home Depot and buying little "cups" that hold rods and a piece of wooden dowel. I attached the cups to the wardrobe with a nut and bolt, and to the wall with screws. Then I just set the dowel in there. it was really easy.

I think the IKEA rods are meant to sit in the holes in the pax, so I found this solution easier.

You could use the Komplement rail between your wardrobes, but you'll need to do a little drilling to make this work. First figure out just how high you want the rail to be and find the corresponding holes on the inside of the two sides. Drill through those holes (two on each side) and then use the screws provided with the rail to secure it to your new holes.

When you drill, be sure to use some kind of backer board to drill into, so you don't "blow out" the hole on the outside of the wardrobe - it won't be small enough to accept the screws if that happens. You'll also need to place and secure your wardrobes so that the correct amount of space is left between them for the rail.

As for the baseboards, you can probably leave them in place, but I would suggest you remove any quarter-round moulding. Use the adjustable front feet to give your wardrobes a "tilt" to the back, and be sure to secure them to your walls using the hardware appropriate for your wall construction. This is especially necessary if your floors are uneven, or if you're using the mirrored doors.
