Help with Pax warbrobes

Can anyone offer advice on how to get the following combination together
We have
1 x Pax Frame - 100cm wide (approx.) 50" wide
4 x Komplement Drawers
2 x Pax Lomen Doors

Where should the drawers be positioned to accomodate the door hinges?

As I see it, we cannot place the drawers evenly on the unit as the door hinges are getting in the way.

Ikea Catalog pictures make it look like it can be done.

Thanks for your help. What a great site!

Re: Help with Pax warbrobes

When having hinged doors you should reserve the upper two holes, the lower two holes and two holes in the centre of the frame for the hinges. So you cannot use these holes for other purposes.

When thinking about it, it might be possible to work around it but then you have to make an extra hole in the door to fit the hinge so you can use other holes in the frame. But I do not know whether this is possible or advisable.

In a previous version of the Paxplanner I designed my wardrobe that it had a komplement drawer down to the floor, but when building it, it was impossible to do it that way, so I put it two holes higher. It seems that the current version of the pax-planner has the same problem, moreover it has not a complete listing of all interior fittings (for instance the komplement drawers are not there).

Re: Help with Pax warbrobes

hope you get this in time - please link to ikea-us from ikea global home page and download the *wardrobe planner* (from 'clothes storage' page or via *planners* from 'customer service' page).

it is *almost* complete in that
+ pop-ups show when interior fittings don't match frame;
+ note about hinges;
+ mucho, mucho drawers!
- not all frame (or door) finishes available=
**note: i use a mac and this works great for me.

i wish all measurements were universally metric - 100cm = ~40". if your frame is 236cm tall, you will fit the drawers. if 201cm, maybe not, but please try this planner to check and, to be sure, go to nearest ikea store to check floor models.

i am in the process of purchasing 2-50x35x201cm frames and will not buy doors (impractical, although aneboda doors would probably work, but the white surround makes them look shoddy/cheap.). sheer fabric panels will have to do because of my teensy room, but this means i can put any interior design i like!

*smoosh!* - yep. it fits.

good luck!

Re: Help with Pax warbrobes - drawer placement and hinges

I have the same problem - I can't put drawers where the hinges are, but the Planner cruelly deceived me and let me put drawers everywhere. I wanted to put the drawer rails for wood drawers below the hinges, and have the drawer slide out between the hinges, but the drawer is too wide for this. It looks like the wire drawers might work though, because they slide on rails that would go above the hinges, and they look like they are narrower at the bottom than at the top, thereby possibly allowing enough space to pass between the hinges.

Can someone check this for me? (I have no local Ikea, I am an on-line orderer)

thanks much!

Re: Help with Pax warbrobes

what combo are you looking for?

i'm not using doors, but i set up the planner in white to make sure i can see the hinges. problem with many of the online photos is that not many show hinge doors. most of the pics are of sliding doors. gotta admit they look very nice.

i'm going to ikea on monday and i will take some pics for you. some will include displays without doors, but showing where hinges are supposed to be placed.

Re: Help with Pax warbrobes

In a 201cm PAX frame between the lower and the central hinge you can put 4 'high' Komplement drawers (IKEA | Garderobekasten | PAX/KOMPLEMENT systeem | KOMPLEMENT | Lade) and 1 'low' Komplement drawer (IKEA | Garderobekasten | PAX/KOMPLEMENT systeem | KOMPLEMENT | Lade met verdeler).

Under the lowest drawer is some space left.

Re: Help with Pax warbrobes

Hey thanks to you both, and photos from the store would be great! Specifically, I am wondering if the wire basket can lie between hinges, with the rail above, and the bottom of the basket below, where the hinges are. I'm not sure I'm describing it well enough, but I think you get the idea!

Thanks again.

Re: Help with Pax warbrobes

i know zackly what you mean. everytime i go to ikea to check out the wardrobes, i want to move the stuff around myself. sad to say, i could stay there all day doing that. my bedroom is approx 303x267cm. i need the most efficient storage system and the only available space is up the walls! hey, might as well make it look decent.

...actually, i might go today.

i hate wasted space. following snaps are for 239cm frame - 4 hinges for ea door, so you will only see 3! whatevers between lower 2 hinges and lots of wasted space.

* sequence * - wardrobe setup, close-up of hinge area, extended whatever to show movement past hinge.

looky-loo:
you can't see the 4th hinge at the top of the open door, but it's there!

baskets and bins work best around hinges.
