okay, i am getting a malm bed frame, some combination of malm dressers, and some type of bedside table, whether its the bolt on one, normal one, or sliding top one.

i have a 4x4 birch expedit and a birch benno tv stand. as weird as it sounds i dont like birch, and preferrably wouldnt want that

what malm finish would look best contrasting with the birch? am i going to have to bite the bullet and get the birch?

can you think of a combination of IKEA furniture that can provide all this to replace the benno and expedit?

-dresser(s)
-desk
-tv storage
-shelving

for around $650 - $700?

my room is painted dark beige (i would call it card board) and navy blue accent walls.

I'd go with the black-brown. It's a nice rich finish and will go well with the beige and navy. The Beech is too orangy and the oak wouldn't be enough contrast to look different. White would also work for a clean modern look but I think the BB would be a little more upscale in appearance.

okay thanks! thats what i was thinking as well.

my ceiling fan is black, as well as the cushions on my poang (with birch frame) so that can kind of be my tie-in piece.

I'd throw in a splash of green in either plant material or pillows on the bed. And I'd definitely lose the striped shams and get a nice rich looking bedspread...maybe in a cocoa brown.

A modern look will be greatly enhanced by reducing (or at least concealing) clutter. Think statements and silhouettes!

good advice! believe it or not the striped sham is a replacement from ikea of a spongebob one i was using for the past two or three years..

(dont think im a crazed adult, im 15 and threw the spongebob one on when my other one ripped and just havnt replaced it)

im just worried the different finishes is going to create a "great divide" in the room.
