Hemnes bedroom set... is it worth getting?

My wife and I were in the Toronto IKEA store today looking at bedroom sets. We have been looking around in different furniture stores lately at complete sets (5-7 piece sets) and we really liked the look of the Hemnes bedframe and matching set. We also just bought the bjursta dining table and we love the black-brown colour a lot.

We were thinking of getting a Hemnes queen-size frame along with the six drawer chest and the eight drawer chest (with matching Hemnes mirror and bedside table) and it fits within the range we were looking at spending (about $1700 Cdn.)

My question is: Is the Hemnes collection (especially the bedframe) durable or strong enough to last the test of time? I'm not talking about giving this furniture to my grandkids one day as an heirloom, I'm just talking about having it for a while and perhaps moving it once down the road?

Would it be worth it to buy the Hemnes set now for this price or save some more $$$ and get a bedroom set from another place that's perhaps more sturdy?

TIA ,
Dale

Re: Hemnes bedroom set... is it worth getting?

I didn't need the bed frame, but I bought the nightstands, 8 drawer chest and the tall 6 drawer chest over five years ago, back when they still offered the unstained plain wood version.

I have them crammed full of clothes and the tops covered with completely with all sorts of crap...and I mean heavy things...and so far, I have not one bad thing to say about them. The drawers still slide nicely, they're not sagging or anything. I'd absolutely recommend them to anyone.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Re: Hemnes bedroom set... is it worth getting?

Thanks dalbrough!

When you put them together, can you email me back and tell me if the boxspring sits down into the frame really low? I bought a new Queen size bed last Fall and the mattress and boxspring are so thick, I need a small ladder to get into bed haha. I forgot to check it out at the store yesterday (how low the boxspring goes in the bedframe) and I was curious if it would lower my bed, which is what I really want.

Thanks as well nda227 too... the furniture looks pretty durable to me but it's always nice to have a second (or third) opinion about it, especially from someone who's had it for a while.

That's my fault... I originally missed the part where you wrote "drawer", I must've skipped over it the first time.

Re: Hemnes bedroom set... is it worth getting?

I've got a 8 drawer Hemnes in white and a Hemnes bed in antique stain and both function well. Both are (mostly) solid wood. The wood is pinewood so it is a rathersoft wood so a dent or so is easily made but it does not affect the quality. I have a pinewood bookshelf which probably can hold at least 50 or 500 years...

Just to let you know we put the dressers together - Wow do they ever hold a ton of clothes - we are really impressed with them.
