Need color scheme ideas for medium brown malm furniture!
Hello,
This is my first entry on here, and found this site while I was browsing for advise on my bedroom layout.
I have the medium brown malm bed frame, but have found that the Ikea catalogues tend to use this color the least when doing layouts. I can't help but wish I would have went with white, black-brown or birch when choosing my first piece of furniture for my bedroom. Maybe I'm not creative enough to work with what I have, though, so that's why I thought I would test my question here and see if anyone can help with ideas.
So, keeping the medium brown malm bed frame in mind:
Any suggestions on - color schemes for paint, comforters and other furniture pieces?
I noticed that most other wood colors go well with each other, whereas this one is harder to match. Example: I like black-brown with cherry-wood furnitures in the magazine, and also the black/white furniture themes and even birch/black. What other colored wood furnitures go well with the medium brown?
Any advice and/or pictures would be very much appreciated.

I like a nice leaf green with white in combination with medium wood tones. It gives a nice fresh feel to the room. I don't know that I would mix any other wood tones with it, I'd recommend going with white if you have any other pieces you need.

My bedroom features a lot of medium brown Malm - vanity table with mirror, bed, and dresser. I've also got a 60s vintage Danish teak desk, an antique cedar chest with a white sheepskin on top of it, a cherry sewing machine cabinet, a dark bamboo armoire, and a black woodstove in the room. They go together well.
One wall is paneled in medium stained beech veneer (solid panels, no grooves), two walls are windows with simple off-white curtains, and the remaining wall and a small accent wall are a deep gray-green. The current floor is an issue, and I've got it covered with medium brown sisal area rugs - it will be slate tile. My bed linens are in tones of rust, sage, and off-white, and I use two smaller sheepskins in place of decorative pillows. My accent pieces are mostly dark brown or amber.
This room is really large - about 500 square feet - and might have a little too much going on for a smaller space. In a smaller space, I would pull in the color palette a bit - maybe exchange the sage for a pale gray-beige (mushroom) closer to the color of the curtains. If I hadn't already had the other wood pieces (which fortunately were compatible), I would choose a dark brown or even a black (for a more modern feel) in my other pieces. And don't be afraid to add a pop of color - even red accents! Medium brown Malm seems to do well with Oriental and Prairie (Frank Lloyd Wright) style palettes.

Don't worry, you bought the best color! It's the most mid-century modern color, and really hard to find in stores these days. I chose a white/blue/brown color scheme for my room. I would highly recommend going to estate sales or antique stores and asking around for mid-century modern side tables or dressers... I have these really unique side tables that I planned the room around and I actually chose and Ikea bed because they were the only store I found that offers this medium brown color that matches.
