PAX Construction Question about ceiling height vs PAX height problems - Need help with redesigning your bedroom or planning your PAX or other wardrobe/closet project? Here's the place to be!.
If the ceiling is only 4" higher than the PAX sys, do you have to build it standing up? Or, do build it on it's side and then raise it? Wouldn't the ceiling height prevent that?
Do not want to cut the ceiling. Any and all suggestions very helpful.
Is it possible to build the system standing up???
I'm trying to decide if I go with the high system in my bedroom and more importantly in my hallway.
(Tight squeeze to build laying down in the hallway, though possible in the bedroom).
According to the directions, yes, you can build it standing up. That's what they recommend if you have clearance issues. It's probably easier to build it standing up, even if your ceilings are high, if you're working alone. The thing is a beast!
Nope, pretty easy with two people. I built the cabinets completely on the floor (we used the 80 inch with 96 inch ceiling height, so no clearance issues) and called DH in to lift them and position them. Then I leveled and secured them to the wall, easy peasy.
No the 15" high pullout pantry, THAT was a beast. And I did that myself, simply because I didn't know any better LOL
Also, how do you get the back on if you're building it standing up? Because with the Billy system, you have to slide the back on, which you would not be able to do if you build it standing up? Just wondering.
I just want to make sure you guys are both talking about Pax, as eva mentioned the pantry sizes for the Akurum cabinets. But eva, you just installed Pax in your new guestroom, right, so I assume you speak from experience. Thanks!
My husband just man-handled the 78" PAX wardrobes we bought by mistake (wanted 93") into the SUV...my word they weigh A TON. We had them delivered, but there's no pick up...
They were so heavy that when loaded onto the flat pak cart, it wouldn't roll.
DH just asked if these were the heaviest items at IKEA, and as he grunted and sweated his way out the door with them (he wouldn't let me help) I helpfully said, "no, I'm pretty sure the heaviest thing at IKEA are the 93" wardrobes we're exchanging these for."
Kathy, yes, I meant the Pax. I was talking about the high pantry because I installed that one by myself, and it was 88 inches plus Capita legs.
Kelly...you are very bad. Did he accept help on the exchanged ones?
DH and I unloaded them from the back of the pickup, and had to employ all sorts of physics principles regarding leverage, pivots and balance. It would have been a great homeschool science lesson!
