Hi, what exactly is the "Attend the 2010 IKEA Catalog Launch event"? I have attended numerous launch events from electronics to books, but never seen launch event for Catalogs. Where will it be held, and what is the program outline? Will there be giveaways, will there be reporters, etc.. What makes it so different that attendees will be honored or feel lucky to be there? It looks like it is two days long as well.
As Susan laid out in the post above, there's a gift basket as well as the offer of dinner with the staff of IKEAFANS.
I certainly enjoyed going last year- I got to meet IKEA designers from all over the world in addition to the head of IKEA North America. Talking with them about their design philosophy, how they source materials, and what IKEAFANS want from IKEA was amazing. I also got some great swag- which I still actually use (how often can you say that?). Most importantly, I got to see ALL the new items and colors in a very impressive installation.
If you're not a big IKEA fan, I can understand why this wouldn't be your cup of tea- on the other hand, if you really are A FAN, it's a blast. I wish I could make it this year!!
Hi! The launch 'event' is a 3 hour invite-only event on Tuesday from 11am until 2pm with special sneak previews of new products to come in the new catalog year. Things can take time to roll out into the stores, and at the event, you get a chance to touch and feel the new stuff before it hits the shelves. Guests will be largely press - both from mainstream press and online blogs, and such but also will probably include IKEA bigwigs and other marketing types from agencies which work with IKEA. And, as Kelly said, you get to talk to the designers and folks from IKEA in Sweden about how products came about, etc. It was super fun last year, and an event not many people get to attend.
We're making it a bigger event by celebrating the launch of the new catalog (and all the new stuff in it!) NY style! In addition to the event itself, we're going to hang out and have dinner and drinks, and the winner gets to take home a $100 gift from IKEA as well as the 'goodie bag o'swag' they always provide.
If you're not local, and you're not excited about the new products to come in the 2010 catalog, it's probably not very exciting. But I'm excited!!
Thanks, I understand and of course, this site being "ikeafans.com" and not "I-Like-Ikea.com" it is definitely a great chance for those fans to attend this. It will really be tough to get anyone to travel to NY just for that, though.
I just wanted to say that the "Must" part probably will keep number of entrants to low. "3. Must be available to attend events in NYC on July 27th in the evening and July 28th from 11am -2pm."
Nevertheless, being a NY'er, I will probably end up entering this but it is tough to say I can attend this if -no matter how unlikely it is- I end up winning.
From our point of view, being able to go the event is kind of important! We don't expect people outside the NY area to fly in for it- even though I and quite a few others did last year.
You are right - the MUST part doesn't need to apply to dinner and drinks on the 27th. We'd LOVE to meet you that way, but the 'real event' is on the 28th from 11am until 2pm. That's all you really need to be there for, but we can't offer a raincheck on the dinner as we're coming in from far reaches for this.
Oh, and so far, you have super great chances of winning as we only have 3 entries so far! Show us some pictures! Show us some IKEA love!
