i recently got the ikea FORSTA press, which seems to be the new name for the KAFFE.
ive been drinking french press for a long time, and i've broken several bodums. i used bodum brazil and the chambord. when i broke my most recent chambord, i checked to see if ikea has a press, and i found a negative review by Ikeafan Susan, so i was skeptical about the ikea press. i ended up at ikea this weekend and saw the forsta, and thought about what i read on susan's review. the forsta is about $13, and a replacement chambord pitcher is about $13, so i thought why not give it a spin (especially since i didn't even know you got get the replacement chambord pitcher only, and i'd thrown away the handle and so i was looking at either the forsta for $13 or the chambord for $35). i also looked in TJ Maxx's home section, since someone had posted that they always get bodum presses cheap at TJ maxx, but i didn't see any presses this time.
aanyway, so i get home and i rinse out and try the forsta. my first run, it's not so good. then i give it a real thorough cleaning (you unscrew the filter on the plunger by grasping the bottom filter assembly and the other end, the top of the plunger, and then twisting them against each other).
my next brew tasted excellent. it was as good as any bodum, same amount of sediment etc. (if you're worried about sediment, you can get a vinyl fine filter at sweetmarias.com. i read somewhere that fp sediment can raise your bp, so it might be a good idea.) also it fits the bodum plungers. to me, the forsta looks better than both the chambord and the brazil. and it's less than 1/2 the price. susan gave 3 criticisms:

- look and feel. i find the forsta look better, and the feel, though lighter, not at all problematically so
- replaceable glass on chambord. but the replacement chambord beaker costs the same as the whole forsta!
- plunger mechanism. i find the forsta plunger atleast as good as the chambord. as for banging it against the counter etc, to clean the forsta plunger, as i said, you grab the lid with one hand and the metal mesh assembly with the other and then twist them against each other. simple to clean once disassembled
