setting up the new house, island?

so now the painter is in the house painting, im waiting for a handyman to give an estimate for ripping out the old kitchen and doing a few other things, and the hardwood guy is coming next week. i made a plan for the kitchen, but i can't figure out whether i can make it work since the windows are a little bit nonstandard.
the painter came up to our apartment, he's kind of a "loud" guy but friendly (and cheap, i hope he does a good job). the floor guy i met in the lobby instead since we were eating supper in our tiny apt. nice guy also. they both walked off with $1000 checks.
we have such a tiny budget, we're doing ikea harlig as our "nice" kitchen though i can see we're at the bottom of the totem pole... everything else will be craigslist, we're also going to check out the h*ll's kitchen flea market in manhattan since it's mentioned so many times in the design books.
