My starting point: a typical 1980's style kitchen. blech
Inspiration

Kitchen mission statement
- My kitchen is organized and easy to use. It is bright and uncluttered when I walk into it.
- I feel like I have a place for everything and I have enough counter space to cook, bake and store kitchen goodies.
- It looks up-to-date and timeless, contemporary yet traditional.
Guiding Principles
- I know where everything is, everything has it’s place
- I have room in the cupboards to store food stuff
- I have room to store my kitchen appliances (two KitchenAids, ice cream maker, large soup pot, blender, mandoline, etc)
- I have enough counter space for food prep and baking
- I am able to display a handful of decorative pots, plates, bowls, etc
- it feels uncluttered, open, bright and cheery (with accents of citrus yellow, green, orange)
- it is well-lit, space to eat for 2
- it maximizes space by using drawers on botton cabinets
- it has easy to clean quartz counters
