Well.........maybe........but, I got your attention!!!!!!!
On New Year's Eve one of our friends who works for a contractor here in the St. Louis area said his company received a solicitation to bid on building an IKEA at the Northwest Plaza location here in North St. Louis County.
If IKEA does come here, it's a great location for them, close to the airport with major highways close. Northwest Plaza has been struggling for years.
Hey, I could handle a 40 minute drive from South County vs. the 5 hours I have now. I am sooooooooooo excited............ok, I don't want to get my hopes up, but, I'm REALLY EXCITED!!!
What do you think, Gloria, and all other St. Louisians (or Illinoisians just across the bridge!)?
If it's up for bidding, it means that they've put a good chunk of money into the feasibility and design already.
It's an existing building already, right? If so, that could even mean they'll be open in 2009.

I'm SOOOOOO hoping this will happen because since the online sales and delivery from so far away is on the chopping block, I was getting a bit concerned about driving 5 hours, only to get back home and find out that something might be wrong, missing, broken, etc. I don't think I would be patient enough to handle that AND drive back to fix the problem. I hardly have time to clean my house, much less a hassle like that.
Narf, I haven't been to Northwest Plaza in MANY years because it's not in my neck of the woods. So, not sure what kind of condition it's in or what has been remodeled, etc. over the years. Perhaps it's just a good location and they'll scrap the old plaza and build anew. Funny thing is, my dentist is on St. Charles Rock Rd., just down the road from the plaza, but I never go past his office, so haven't seen the plaza. Come to think of it, I need to find a closer dentist!!!!!
So, I wonder how long it will take to hear something...........
