Hi I am new to this site but love the inspiration I have gotten thus far. I have been working on a kitchen remodel for way to long and my husband wants me to just do it. The problem I'm having is that we got a great deal on a suite of Viking appliances and I just wonder what putting IKEA cabinets in my kitchen might do to our resale value. The other problem is that our fridge requires a panel (not available at IKEA). The only thought I had was putting a panel board and painting it with chalkboard paint. Any ideas on this or how IKEA cabinets hold up over time.
Welcome! I think you'll find Ikea's cabinets are so much more functional that potential buyers will start ooo-ing and ahh-ing when they open drawers and pullouts (use as many drawers as possible!). As for the externals, what kind of look are you going for? Ikea has some great styles that mimic the very high end/high cost products. Post your mission statement, potential door styles, and a floor plan and we can probably help you achieve something very nice!
We completed our kitchen remodel last summer. We used Subzero, Wolf and Miele appliances. As far as I'm concerned, the improvement we made to our kitchen is such a vast improvement on the original kitchen, it definately adds value. People are just not as familiar with Ikea cabinetry but once they see all the great features they are usually fans. I did find that most of the Ikea cabinet styles were modern and our house was a cottage style so we needed a traditional look. We used Lidingo and are very happy with the final result (and the cost!).
Depending on what door style you choose, if necessary you might be able to get a matching one made by a company like MapleCraft USA.
I am putting in a subzero fridge and either a viking or wolf range (or gaggenau cooktop and oven) in my Ikea kitchen. In my area, that is what people expect to see in a high-end kitchen.
You might look at the high/low" post under kitchen planning re the kitchen done by designer Sarah Richardson with IKEA cabs; it is gorgeous.

My kitchen is IKEA, Subzero, Wolf and Miele just like Liz's- I feel great about the value we got based on lots of research. Would absolutely do it again.
