Thank you - and a very happy Mothers day to you as well.
So far I am pretty lucky - got up two hours before the rest of the family and surfed Ikea Fans for the last few hours.......Can't think of a better way to spend my time while everyone is still sleeping!!
Well off to get some mulch for the gardens - hubs always help me in the gardens on mothers day.....our annual tradition - he digs and lifts and transplants and helps me mulch!!!
Deb, that's a lovely tradition! I might start that myself, since I recently read that a garden expert in this area recommended not doing anything until Mother's Day...which explains why half my herbs are dead.
I wish all of our moms here perfect children and husbands all day today!
We usually get our vegetable garden going on Mother's Day weekend, but we actually got a bunch of stuff in the ground early this year. We still have to get 2 more beds prepped, and one other planted. Plants are ready, and we've got mulch and manure, but it doesn't look like the weather is going to cooperate. Besides - Tigger is sore and exhausted after constructing 3 conical custom copper trellises for the 3 Moms here. They're beautiful, but the hand-made part apparently was pretty painful.
Right now, he and the 2 kids and Grandma are making a volcano from a Smithsonian kit that Alex got for Christmas. Fun, fun!
Happy Mother's Day to all of you, and to all of your moms as well!
DJ and I are on our way to his sister's house. Her husband has a double sized family, due to his parents divorcing and remarrying when he was very little. He has 2 sets of grandparents and two sets of STEP-grandparents! Rather than them go visiting everyone (with their two little ones in tow, no less!) Amy gives herself a Mother's Day gift of "sitting in one place" and has everyone bring a dish and come to her house.
DJ bought his mother lovely deep purple petunias and a wrought iron shepherd's crook to hang the basket from, and we sent my mother flowers. Susan, when James recovers enough to type, I would love the directions for that trellis!
I ended up cooking for my mother and sister and the family- but truly enjoyed it. I made spinach, red bell pepper and egg white omelets and then to balance all that healthfulness out:
I use good quality vanilla extract in place of the vanilla bean, more fresh ground nutmeg, and don't top it with extra chives. Dee lish!
McGuyver did more than his share as always. Susan, I would love to see James' handiwork on those trellises- copper, always an appreciated gift!!
The boys and the man gave me a massive Le Creuset! It's not the goose pot- it's the next size down. I think someone here besides just me has gotten the Cassoulet bug!! Now if I can just get all the ingredients!
Happy Mother's day to all the Ikeafan mothers out there. I just had to share what I did with my sister for our mother. We got our kids and hubbies together and dressed them up nice, and had a really really fancy supper together. My kids set the table. I made a diagram for them and they did all the setting.
Here is a place setting
1st course - King Crab legs and drawn butter
2nd Course - Cream of Leek soup and a french roll
3rd Course - Spinach Salad
4th Course - Breaded Sole with a red pepper mayo on herb rice
5th Course - Grapefruit and Mint Sorbet
6th Course - Lamb Chops, garlic potatoes, asparagus and carrots
7th Course - Assorted Cheeses and coffee (hot chocolate for kids)
8th Course - Strawberry Sundae Supreme
And check out my latest Ebay purchase - what everyone needs - an asparagus server
I've always wanted one. And it really works great, too!
Wow - what a meal....and the table looks fantastic..........food looks very yummy - but that being said - I am now very hungry......<smile>
What a great idea....
I learned something new today............I did not know an asparagus server even exsisted. How does it work? Or is just like a cake server without the pointy end?
