I'm a hard core used car buyer and my hands down favorite car of all time is our 1997 Volvo 850 GLT Wagon that has 112,000 miles and which I think we've had to put $1.98 into for anything other than general maintenance. We bought it in 1999 with 42,000 miles on it.
ohhhhh Volvo. Big puffy hearting the new Cross Country.
We bought a Mazda 3 five door about a year and a half ago and I love it. Everything about it is awesome despite the fact that it's a cheapo car. It averages 28 mpg which is fantastic compared to our other vehicle, but these days I'd be shopping for something that does way better.

Well... We have a Jeep for when we need to tow the trailer to carry mulch (or if we're planning a heavy AS-IS run ), but mostly we've been driving a 1996 Acura Integra GSR. GREAT little car. I think we've had it for over ten years now and I think it's got about 120K on the meter and we have only *ever* had to do regular maintenance and once we had to have the rotors replaced on the rear because the calipers kept getting stuck due to heavy corrosion (it had a prior life near the sea we figure) and despite our repeated trips to the local shop the rotors were pretty worn by the time they got a decent mechanic to diagnose the problem.
Other than that, it's been getting about 30 mpg it's whole life, has a wonderful VTEC engine and can fit an amazing amount of stuff in the trunk. I'm very glad we've hung onto it, it's been a great investment and continues to be rock solid reliable.
Oh, and it was Susan's first car that we bought together for her to drive (I was driving the 3rd gen RX-7, THE most fun car to drive I've ever been in), so of course it's her favorite color: Red.

I've got a Saturn SL1 (2000) and I love it. A good little car, 30+ MPG... I'm a big fan of Saturn vehicles in general - they've served my family well for 15+ years.
...but I really REALLY want a VW Beetle.
Oh you have NO idea how much Susan wants one too... We came ::pinching gesture:: close to getting one when our old jeep got banged in the side, but we needed something with more room for those occasional hauling trips. We also found some disturbing things about build quality that we were really surprised to hear, though I think I read that that is improving now that there's been a changeover in owner/leadership of VW.
I'd *love* a biodiesel Bug! We even had plans to buy a Blue one and put yellow stickers on it . Maybe someday...

2002 Honda Odyssey bought when we got pg... only new car hubby had ever bought, and that was only cause the used market at the time was insane for the Odyssey
Hubby bought a "previously owned" 2003 Mercedes CLK 500 AMG (forgive me if i got that wrong, i always do) I love convertibles so i "require" one in the house at all times it's my one diva demand
and my dream car (which we'll source and build in the, hopefully, near future) is an International Scout 800, but completely rebuilt with modern conveniences. That would meet the convertible requirement so the hubby can buy whatever at that point.
fwiw, he LOVES the mini, he owned one of the stretch ones in Israel in his 20s. He was so excited to see them come back, they're great cars!
(I was driving the 3rd gen RX-7, THE most fun car to drive I've ever been in),
I learned how to drive a stick in that car! It was my boyfriend's, and I have to give him props for surviving the experience of teaching me in his car LOL
Our Mini Cooper is just a base model, but once the kids are both grown, I would definitely like to get an S Model. It is so absolutely fun to drive that if you've never driven one, you MUST go take one for a test drive.
And if you VW Beetle fans are ever in my area, my mom and step-dad are trying to sell her 70' Yellow/White convertible Beetle and a 72' Yellow/Black hardtop Beetle. They're both crazy. They went around buying all these cars and now they have to sell all 24 of them. Everything from a 1949 blue Chevy Coupe to a 1966 red Chevy Corvair convertible. Two years ago it was 75 horses they sold......this year it's cars. Who knows, I may keep one of the Beetles just to save on gas mileage compared to my big, gas-hog truck.
I drive a 2001 2-seater diesel Peugeot 106 that gives me about 50 miles per gallon
and, I'm eagerly waiting for the MDI air car to come out ( see MDI Enterprises S.A. for more info)
I do have a drivers licence but I don't have a car. Owning a car in the centre of Amsterdam is very not handy (parking space and parking costs, busy traffic, jams). Inside Amsterdam I do everything by bike, which is usually much less travelling time, however, I would like having a good long distance bike.
