Long distance cruiser: '94 Buick Roadmaster (164k). Corvette V8, seats 8, and can get 25mpg on the highway..
Wow - the last of the big ones - it is like a rolling sofa.......built for comfort and power. You could probably sleep a family of six in it comfortably.
Eva - they came standard with a corvette V8 motor........Huge car with a huge motor in it.
I can't believe I actually knew the answer to this - I guess the last 18 years of hubs talking about cars has actually come in handy - who woulda thought that!!!

Yep. Alas, it's handling is akin to a sofa too; getting a 9C1 suspension setup would do wonders for it.
1996 ended the All-American full-size body-on-frame land-yacht station wagon. Funny how nowadays, that rear facing 3rd row has become a novelty for a new generation of kids.
As with your Expedition, parking is indeed one of the poorer aspects, hence why it's not a daily driver. The Saturn defnitely has the advantage here, especially with the plastic panels.

Narf, that is too true about the rear facing seat in a station wagon, which I love! There are only two makes that I know if that continue to have it in a station wagon, and I'm hearing that VOLVO has phased it out. The other is Mercedes E class station wagon and it is great for a little wagon to turn into a people hauler like that (provided your people weigh less than 100 lbs each). To get anything like that you have to move up to the SUVs- Volvo, Range Rover, or 3rd row seating like Highlander and others.
speaking of hauling things on a bike...
a friend of mine just fabricated this thing for his bike to haul his bike:
I think he could make himself a millionaire with the thing.
Most weeks, the extent of my driving is making a run out to "our" farm to pick up my CSA share, and I have been tossing around the idea of being able to haul that on my motorbike all summer. I guess I know who I can ask to figure out that fabrication project!

As I figured Ikeafans are a thrifty bunch. I enjoyed reading what everyone has. We have been surviving here in LA with one car ('97 Toyota Tercel) for a little over a year but DH got a new job so we need two cars now. I get the Tercel and we brought my DH his car this weekend. It was an easy experience. I called the internet dealers in my area asked for the best price and then called them again (ok maybe several times). I agreed on a price and we were in and out in less than an hour. Paid with Plastic. No haggling. I looked at the Fit, Versa, Yaris, Civic and a few others. We got the Kia Spectra5 as it had everything we needed in a car and it was well priced.
Love seeing all the gas sippers here! Not me though. I'm a gas guzzling typical American I guess. We have a 2004 Denali (14/18mpg) and a 2001 LS430 (16/25mpg). The Lexus we'll keep until it won't run or my wife can convince me a 460 is worth it. I'd like to downsize the Denali to a Mini but its paid for and I only drive about 25 miles a day so it'll be staying.
