Just have to admit defeat sometimes ...

6 year old GE fridge died over the weekend , and while most of the time I'd repair over replace, this won't be one of those cases. Circuit board is dead, and I'm faced with shelling out nearly $200 for a replacement in hopes that such is the only thing that went wrong.

Unexpectly, Covina AS-IS saved the day once again . Can't complain about a 22 cu.ft. in stainless.for $490 including delivery ... which was the other aspect I had to admit defeat on. It's wasn't going to fit in my Saturn, no matter how hard I try!

That said, it means my appliance finishes are mismatched once again. ARGH!!

(Was originally stainless dishwasher/black stove/white fridge, then white/white/white, now white/white/stainless.)

Re: Just have to admit defeat sometimes ...

Well, throw the old thing in the back of the Roadmaster and drive it on down to the local Habitat ReStore - maybe they can fix it? In whatever case, don't forget to remove the door!

Great find (as usual) in As-Is!

Re: Just have to admit defeat sometimes ...

Actually, it's not going to fit in the Roadmaster. As huge of a wagon it is, headroom and cargo height isn't one of its strong points.

I'll most likely just get rid of it on craigslist. The closest HfH Restore is like at least an hour's drive away.

Refrigerators can be complicated to get rid of...we have to hire a certified hauler to take them away so that the govt is sure the refrigerant stuff is properly disposed of!

Narf, can you change out the panel on the DW or cover it with FXSheeting? Then you'd just need a new stove!

Re: Just have to admit defeat sometimes ...

Around here, there are enough entrepreneurial repairmen that would repair (with parts off another dead fridge) and resell, so getting rid of it isn't going to be an issue at all.

The d/w, I could always swap back in the one I pulled out several months back, (since I never got around to giving it that good cleaning before listing it forsale), and once I get a 240V line (which isn't in the budget anymore), I could use the Mumsig SS oven that I picked up a couple months back (plus a cooktop) ... but that does mean needing to redo the countertop too.

It will get done ... some day.
