Hi all,

I'm at a loss. I've been trying to procure a carseat chest clip ( or harnass restraining tie) for my daughter's carseat. It holds the two parts of the carseat harnass at armpit height, ensuring that they are properly supported in case of an accident. Here in France, it doesn't exist even though the same companies sell to Europe and the states.

Long story short, have any of you seen any of these for sale in stores? Where? Any ideas? I've looked everywhere online, and have written to carseat manufacturers (no response) and when I finally found one on Ebay, the lady rejected my bids because I'm not in the U.S.

Thanks

Cyndi

Cyndi, if your car seat is a brand that sells in the US (where I believe those clips are requirerd), the manufacturer should be able to provide you with the part...probably free of charge.

Hi Anna,

Alas, my carseat manufacturer does not sell in the states. However, I have contacted some of the manufacturers that do and have not even gotten one reply. :?

Maybe you can find a used car seat in the French equivalent of a thrift store, and just cannabalize it for the clip?

Cyndi_L: The various car seats that I have installed for my children on my bus have a chest clip built-in to the shoulder harness that comes through the seat. It's not separate. Yours didn't come with the chest clip built-in? It's alsopossible that something made for another carseat wouldn't be interchangeable and work with yours out of safety concerns. I haven't looked at the types of carseats they sell in retail in years and, of course, ours aren't obtained through retail at work. It's a shame that the public can't obtain what we have for their own children. I believe they're made so much better, safer and efficient. Our Safety Director is also certified to install various car seats because they really all do need to be installed differently. Hopefully it says on the back of your carseat how to install it properly. After I have installed some of the carseats that are for lighter weight/shorter height children, I stand up in the carseat and rock back-n-forth, pulling the seat belt that has been threaded through the carseat and tightening it as I rock. This really does help to secure it to the seat so it's not tipping back-n-forth. If it's still moving, it's not installed properly. Hope this helps.:?

Thanks all of you.

We bought an ISOFIX carseat that attaches directly to the frame of the car via 2 metal latches on the seat that latch onto 2 hooks built in the car frame between the cushions. This is a new system that car manufacturers are incorporating as standard since about last year.

The problem is that while the 5 point harnass has been brought over to this side of the ocean the chest clip has not. It doesn't exist-anywhere. You just won't find it here despite the fact that they sell the same Graco and Britax carseat models as in the states where the clip comes standard.

My concern is that while I can tighten the harnass, my daughter, who is rather petite can work the harnasses to the edges of her shoulders. The harnasses tighten from the top down and not side to side (they meet at bellybutton height) hence the need for the clip higher up.

Laurie,
By looking at a lot of clips, they are pretty much the same in their design so I don't think it would be too much of a problem to use one from a different seat maker. Do you work in a children's store?

The safety standards for children is not too high comparing with the states. People are being advised to use bassinets with clips to hold it to the seatbelts in the car with the baby (0-9mos) restrained only by a type of belly belt (nothing else) that would not do much in an accident nor if the car rolled over.

....ok, I've got issues with related topics in this country (don't carry your child, let them cry themselves to sleep, no eating dinner with the adults).......sorry for the OT rant.

No, I left a desk job 11 years ago to drive a bus for our children's school district. It allows me tohave more time off with my own children. Iwork directly for our district, not a contractor. Safety is a high concern in our district (makes me sick the impression that some drivers give to the profession). I just about choke when I see a contract bus driver talking on their cell phone or smoking while their driving. Unbelievable!! I don't smoke, but our drivers are not allowed to smoke within 1500 feet of a school campus, much less on a bus!! No one shouldever drive a bus if the only reason they're doing it is for a paycheck.I drive 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and you develop a repoire with the children and impressions are everything. The majority of our 100+ drivers are parents in the district and take driving our children very seriously. Anyway, the last three years I have worked with our Special School District children and some use various car seats or harness systems.

The majority of injuries from seat belts come from the straps crossing the belly area and doing internal injuries.

We have different types of harness systems also. One type you must unlatch the bottom of the seat in the bus and thread through and latch together. The child then has a safety vest that zips in the back (kinda like a straightjacket!) and then you sit them down in the seat and it clips into the bus installed harness system. There isn't anyway they can get out of the vest.

I hope you find what you're looking for for your precious little cargo!

Laurie

No eating dinner with the adults??!! To me, family time at the dinner table is so important not only for catching up on what happened during their day, but family bonding time which is happens so little anymore.

Perhaps you can teach them something new!

I know this is somewhat belated reply but what type of carseat do you have?

The type that I have sells a clip on their website but it is specific to the seat I have.

Maybe something there would work for you?

Hi!

Thank you!!
They sell Britax here but without the clip and in England the clip is built into the padded straps--I never got a reply when I contacted them directly.....

I am going to try to arrange with a friend in the states to order and send me a few off the site.
