Woke up this morning to vandalism of our house. We got TP'd last year, but this year it was even worse. TP, shaving cream everywhere, eggs....a huge mess. We called the police. Apparently we were the only house in town, and we have no idea why. We spent the morning cleaning it up. I'm SO furious!!
They filled the entire threshold of the front door with shaving cream so when I opened the door it got all over my floor. They threw at least a dozen eggs, two on the screen, one on the front door, a couple on the cars, several in the yard and a couple on the roof and the backyard. Do you know how hard baked-on egg is to get off of concrete? Do you know it can damage paint on cars and damage glass? They festooned the entire tree with TP. They shaving creamed both cars. They creamed every block of the walk. They took my topiaries and threw them in the yard and creamed them. They wrote "Ho" in front of my car.
Nice for my kids to experience that sort of crap in this small town. They were more upset than we were, I think.
Ohhhh.... Eva ... what a mess.... It probably was some teenagers thinking it was pretty funny... probably kids from around the neighborhood - since it didn't happen elsewhere in town. I can feel your anger and frustration in your post. I hope that you didn't get alot of damage and that it can be quickly cleaned up.

Oh, we'll definitely be vigilant tonight! Thank God DH is home...he was out of town until yesterday evening. We don't "do" Halloween, so maybe there's someone who remembers from last year they didn't get any candy.
What really bothers me is that someone planned, prepared and determined to carry out something for no purpose except sheer destruction and damage. Purely evil intentions. And if it was a kid it's even worse that they're so easily persuaded to do evil at a young age with not a second thought of it being wrong. It's sickening.
And even worse, where were their parents? What were kids doing out in the middle of the night? This took some time.
Oh, Eva...I'm so sorry! There's no excuse for that kind of behavior and I agree that the parents are as much responsible as the kids. I hope that they are caught and made to do public service. Perhaps cleaning out Porta-Potties would be suitable. YUCK!

I echo the dismayed sentiments that others have posted. What happened is really awful, and I'm glad to hear that you filed a police report.
The policemay have already done this for you, but it might not be a bad idea to check your locks and windows for any signs of attempted break in. Also, maybe look into aporch light with a movement sensor to help serve as a deterrent?I don't mean to be suggesting a complete"Ft. Knox" mentality here-- but just a few safeguards, especially if your DH travels a bit/you're home alone withthe kid(s)(and a fabulous kitchen, might I add!).
Thanks, B. We did check for those signs...we're both native New Yorkers, so ...LOL There was no sign, and both cars, although unlocked , were not vandalized inside. (We usually do lock them at night, but with DH coming home from a trip and unloading the luggage etc. it just didn't get done)
Doing a little of our own "CSI" work, we determined that the vandals were most likely slightly taller than me, definitely under 6 feet. We based that on where most of the shaving cream was placed, it was all about three inches above where I would naturally have sprayed it. And only two eggs made it over the roof, one landed on the roof, so we're looking for a couple of short dumb kids with bad aim. They didn't touch either of the kids bedroom windows, either, probably because they didn't know if it was a master bedroom or not.
There are several dogs in the immediate vicinity that bark at anything at all, including leaves, so that's not too helpful in terms of alerting the neighbors...we all just ignore them!
The neighbor across the street has an extremely sensitive motion-activated floodlight, which I am sure went off since I set it off going to get the mail. Didn't seem to stop them from what they did, though. And we leave the porch light on all night, it's on a rheostat.
I just wish I knew who it was and why they targeted us.
Eva - I'm so sorry. What a mess. I bet you were a wrong address hit or just hit at random. Should I send our dogs over to help protect?

Eva, I'm so sorry! This is my first post to IKEA Fans, and not what I expected to be posting, but I couldn't help offering my sympathy.
Halloween has become commercialized and nasty. I grew up in England (to start with) where it used to be All Hallows Eve, a day of lost souls, a night to stay inside and listen to creaking floorboards and rustling leaves. And then in the US I was a UNICEF trick or treater, collecting my pennies and nickels for kids who needed them more than I needed candy.
What happened?
As a parent, I have to say, parents you have just as much responsibiltity on October 31st as on any other night of the year!!!
It's sad, but we keep our lights off and no longer answer the door.
