Just stumbled on a positive focus website that seems like it's worth a look. In a conscious effort to balance the negative focus of the mainstream media,
http://www.happynews.com/focuses on positive news stories from both AP press and from volunteer journalists. Just browsing through their headlines I was reminded of the tremendous strides made towards peace in northern Ireland and several other issues that seem to slip beneath the radar of news sources that focus primarily on doom and gloom catastrophe to sell their advertising.
Granted, looking at the world though rose-colored glasses isn't exactly the most balanced way to view events, but it makes you wonder why we, as a society, seem to think that looking at it though horror-hued lenses is any better? It's scarcely more balanced, maybe it makes us feel good that we're focusing on the "tough" issues? ::shrug:: In any case, it's nice to browse a site that is specifically trying to focus on good news without regarding the stories as "fluff" pieces...
