We're getting pretty close to starting the demo in our kitchen and I am now faced with something that may be a good problem to have.
We've got original 1940s/50s "Youngstown Kitchens by Mullins" cabinets and sink in our kitchen. We know that, under the right conditions, people out there are willing to pay roughly $700-$1,000 for our "trash." The problem is, I don't know where exactly to find these people. We don't have any Architectural Salvage companies within 40 miles.
Has anyone had this issue with their demo and were you successful in finding people to buy your vintage cabs? I'm looking for leads on salvage sites or historic restoration sites.
I've done google searches, but have primarily ended up with forums where people post questions, but I don't see any real transactions occurring...
Do you have a local Craigslist? That would be my first place to list them....

Yup, yup. Those would have been my suggestions. Good luck! Nice to get some $$$ for something you want to get rid of anyway! Wish I could get some bucks for my built in place ugly plywood cabinets, alas...no joy.

Are the Youngstown cabinets metal? The pics look like they're wood?
Thanks,
John
The cabinets in question are metal. The pics in my gallery on this site are from my IKEA cabinet install, after I'd already removed the old cabinets.
If you want to take a look at the cabinets in question, I'd be happy to send you some pics. They're in pretty decent structural shape, but have been painted and have some surface rust -- nothing a good media blasting couldn't fix. I see your local IKEA is Canton -- I could even suggest a great place to get them blasted and powder coated in the Metro Detroit area...
