Hi! Just for grins (and benefits) I showed up for the Costa Mesa Ikea's hiring event this morning. Was gonna beat the storeanyway, why not go an hour early? My impending kitchen order...and Ikea's 15% employee discount...wasn't all the way at the back of my mind, LOL.
Bottom line, not unexpected, is that nobody gets offers on the spot, and no salary info was disclosed. I'm expecting all postions are just slightly above minimum wage. And as explained, Ikea's benefits are truly first class, and available to full and part time workers.
Anyway, the stuff I learned that might be more interesting to you all: the new catalog "drops" on July 28 per thesales manager. However I couldn't find out exactly when the new Kitchen Catalog will be issued. Betcha a nickel it's very pertinent to those who haven't placed orders yet: they are basically honoring the pricing that was supposed to expire June 30...until the new catalog drops. Something tells me that worldwide energy prices mean the new prices will be higher.
Also, the sales manager expected their Kitchen business to skyrocket during the coming year. They're planning to completely redo the entire kitchen area, and are hiring full time Kitchen staff and "expeditors" (the folks you call when your order arrives incomplete, damaged etc).
In the employee staircase there was a huge changeable banner that listed their banner sales days and weeks. Top week in the Costa Mesa store was...$2.47 million. The top day was $800K. That's a lotta RyKrisp, LOL.
Ha! That's a great idea! I got the number to call to find out about being a "Certified IKEA Installer" because I wanted topost what qualifications they required before they recommend installers to unsuspecting customers. But so far, I've chickened out on calling. I probably am being way too wussy about it--I could just say I'm the secretary/receptionist/personal assistant person calling for my boss and play dumb if they ask me specific questions.
Anyway, I have often wondered why, when I lived nearer an IKEA, I didn't even think about working there. I drove by everyday on my way to a job that was much too stressful, and not too much fun most of the time. Sad, but true. I'd be interested to know what they pay, anyway. Not that it'd do me any good now, but at least I'd feel better about keeping the "good" job for "good" pay, and driving by the "fun" job for "not so fun" pay. Or maybe I'd feel worse?
Susan
