i finally closed on friday, 12/16/11! woot! first up: locks and curtains in 26deg F after working a double shift. ahh! the miracle that is espresso. my agent gifted me with a lowe's card and my drill/driver just bit the dust (heh-heh). gotta love it.
i'm feeling like a shaken snow globe - all these great ideas just floating around! gotta get a handle on this so, a big "THANK YOU!", in advance, to ikeafans and all its members.
Karen - Congratulations! How exciting. Must be a wonderful joy this time of year. Thanks so much for sharing, and for your well wishes.
We're also wishing everyone well. Hoping we get some weather to support the idea that it's the holidays! Shake that snow globe in the direction of Virginia, please!
Harpy - Merry Christmas to you! I bet it's a balmy 68 degrees there....
Have a great holiday and enjoy all that is to come in the New Year!
Sounds like the timing of the gift card could NOT have been better. A good driver/drill is probably my #1 needed tool for almost anything.
Totally agree with Harpy... Pictures!
Back to the topic of the thread though, I truly hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. Susan, the kids and I have had such a weird season since the house is uninhabitable till probably some time in January. But the positive thing? It doesn't matter. We've found we can have just as great a holiday season even without all the trappings and STUFF.
Wherever you are, whatever your situation, enjoy the time with your family and friends. Make the days special, not because of what's on the calendar, but because you are together and can make the time to rejoice in all that is special in each other!

We've finally got a Certified Industrial Hygienist who did his initial visit on Friday. We'll have a protocol that will ensure the air quality is better than the standard for elementary schools by a substantial margin at final clearance, so the house SHOULD be clean.
But I don't think we're going to live there again. We'll see...
But we're trying to look at it in a positive light - I mean, how many times in your life do you get the chance to do a do-over, y'know?
Can't believe it's only a week off. On the positive side, I've actually WRAPPED some things already, which is pretty much a world record around here. On the negative side, we're all tired and stressed from school, work, and looming adolescence.
I really need to assess how much baking I want to do/anyone else actually cares if I do--I am generally a baking fool this time of the year! I do want to try these cute little critter cutters, maybe on some gingerbread? DRÖMMAR Pastry cutter, set of 6 - IKEA. And I picked up this set DRÖMMAR Cake decorating set - IKEA, so I need to bake a cake and slice it in half, right?
The cake splitting would be great for a cake like the one we made for my Mom's birthday last year. Three split layers of yellow cake with raspberry filling inside, iced with white buttercream and a chocolate ganache poured over top. We decorated it with candied flowers. It was decadent! mozart-cake.jpg
It was incredible, especially the custard! But because I'm lazy and the cake was just fine, not amazing, I think next time I'll use a box mix for that part--and maybe I'll make extra custard!
