I live in Chelsea and have recently fallen in love with Ikea. Unfortunately, there is no public transportation going there and my wife and I have no car. One time, we were so desperate that we took a bus to Haymarket, the subway to Ashmont, and then a combination of two buses to Avon from where we walked for an hour to Ikea. It took 3.5 hours!
This is too hard!
Are there any area IKEAFANS that regularly make trips there from the city who we an hitch a ride with? We don't know many people around here. I am from Ohio and my wife is from Romania. We are friends with one couple, but they have taken us three times and are tired of it.
I hope you can find someone willing to give you a ride! If not, you might consider renting a car- it can be pretty inexpensive, and kind of fun for the day when you don't get to drive much! We used to do it from time to time when we lived in Chicago without a car.
I know early on when IKEA first opened, they were running shuttle buses from the Quincy Adams stop in Quincy on the Red Line. I'm not sure if they're still doing it, but maybe you could call the store and ask.
It may or may not, but Ikea is still about an hour walk from there. The trip would still be 2.5 to 3 hours and the commuter rail is expensive. The bus at least is at leat covered br our monthly transport passes.
Use GoLoco - founded by one of the ladies who founded ZipCar. Excellent & green concept. But negotiate on the gas fee w/ the poster cos' many are charging unfair prices if you ask me. But then again I drive a hybrid that goes 54 mpg.
Alternatively, we can set up a regional MA sub-forum so that members can post when they plan to drive down to IKEA store from whatever location & see if others want to tag along & share the gas fee... sort of making our own GoLoco community.
