I'm lighting up my pantry display cases to light up my looney toons cookie jar collection. I got those LED in-cabinet lights. I've been looking at these wireless wall switches. I guess they plug into the plug and then you stick the switch wherever you want. I'm kind of out of electrician $$$, highly skeptical abouthaving the hootspah to do it myself (I already have curly hair)and my only other option is a clapper...
Dede -- I'm sure Tigger will want to chat with you about this, but right now he's still grumbling about being awake. It's something we've considered in the breakfast room. Do you have a link for the ones you're looking at?

Yes Susan, the link is here (I'm looking at Best Buy...I WISH I could find a store I could drive to to order it as I'm hoping to gang my cabs together Monday). http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1112808252598
Basically, I had a pass through between my dining room and living room. Previous owners havewalled up the dining room sideand put a wet bar in the living room side. I knocked the dining room wall side down, capped off the sink and got rid of the gawd-awful bar. Now I'm putting 12" deep pantry shelves in (so I have 20" between the two cabinets).
I have a "plug outlet" in the area, and already have the LED lights that plug in. I was going to be a smart-alec and use a "clapper", but my dad's friend keeps telling me I'm going to regret not being able to access the plug.
Should I just try to figure out how toget power from the "plug" forthe light switch?I think I have to put in another junction box! Whenever I "play" withelectrical (remember, I'm accident-prone!), I'm usually supervised!
That looks like a pretty decent possibility, The other one I've seen that might be locally available is an outdoor version that's used for X-mas lights etc, I think I saw them at Target? It's like a pendant that plugs into the outlet, and then you plug whatever you're controlling into it.
I'd consider plugging a power strip into the adapter and then puggling all your cab lighting into that. That way you can control multiple fixtures with a single remote and the cab lighting draws so little power you shold be fine amps wise.

Yup, I'm definitely using the power strip (mostly because once installed, I will be unable to get to the plug, so I'm going to set the power strip where I can get to it by popping off the toekick on one side. I guess that's my biggest worry, not being able to get at everything!
That Target thing sounds interesting. Maybe I'll go poke my head in there...I might just try to get the kitchen side done and do the entertainment center once my decision is made.
I used wireless switches all the time in my old apartment because I didn't want to put too much effort into improving someone else's property. They're really easy to use, but they do have a couple small problems. First, you need to make sure you're not getting interference from other remotes. It's not a very difficult problem to fix, but if you notice the lights coming on or going off on their own, you need to take care of it. Second, if you plan to use the switch for something that will be on a lot of the time, the lights may shut off after a few hours. It's not a big deal, but when the lights do time out, you have to flip the switch a few times before they come back on. Here's one at home depot:
I'm not sure if that's how you post a website in a message board, so it might not come up right. Anyway, this is one of many available at Home Depot and Lowes.
I ordered the ones from Best Buy and I'm hoping they're there when I get home from the Nascar race tomorrow. I'll let you know. I didn't think about the other remotes, thanks for bringing that up! I don't know how long I'll have them on (probably, just when company's looking at the "collection!"), so it won't be a problem to flip the switch on & off!
Chabuchie -- I'm not in the habit of editing other people's posts, but I changed your link so that it wasn't stretching out the page to the right.
I know that Tigger is wanting to do something like this in the breakfast room, since we are in an old house with plaster walls and don't want to tear into the ceiling to add a switch to the center light -- there used to be a fan there with a pull-chain and we never noticed there was no switch until we tried to change out the fan!
This opens up my possibilites for lighting! Thanks!
