It's now BBQ season so I'd like to pass on a tip for the quickest, easiest to use, least expensive little smoker that money can buy - the Orion Cooker.
Orion Outdoors Last Thanksgiving I cooked a 20# turkey in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Should have followed the recipe to the letter and pulled it out 15 minutes earlier. It was pretty well falling off the bone, but was more moist than the other turkey we pulled out of the oven at the same time. A month earlier I had cooked 6 full racks of baby back ribs in 1 hour 15 minutes. After taking them out of the Orion I just put some BBQ sauce on them and tossed them on the grill for a few minutes. Outstanding taste and texture. I only got to use it 3 times last year, but plan to do far more this year.
This little baby works like a convection oven. The cooking chamber is sealed, with a ring on the outside that holds match light briquets. The top has an indentation to hold a few more briquets. This creates movement in the heated air inside. Because of the fact that the cooking chamber is closed, all moisture is kept inside so it also partially steams the meat. In addition, you put wood chips in a foil packet inside the food chamber and against the wall which gives everything a genuine smoke flavor. All right, no smoke ring. Just close your eyes and taste.
Home Depot sells them for about $140. They also have many favorable reviews on the site. I know that outdoor cooking doesn't have much of a tie-in to Ikea, but thought I'd mention this anyway.
