Discuss i need to stop eating out... on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. i need to stop eating out... - Cooking, baking...what are you doing in the kitchen?.
Instead of stopping the eating out, though, I'm upping my days at the gym. Seriously, I am! Five days in the gym last week, and a nine mile hike on the beautifully sunny Sunday we just had. Of course, all that extra exercise creates a viscious cycle, because then I get hungry after going to the gym; so, I eat out again. Then...I feel like I need to go back to the gym. But, I don't. After all, I do have a kitchen to plan!
In addition to eating out too much, we've been buying snacks for the crew that would not otherwise cross the threshold of our house -- snacks like Girl Scout cookies, cokes and donuts. (OK, Girl Scout cookies would have made it in anyway! ) So, we've been kind of splurging on the processed sugar this month, too. Honestly, I tried fruit and granola bars for the crew in the first week, and they didn't get touched. I tried, I really did!
Anyway, all tolled, it's been about a gain of about a pound/week during kitchen construction. It's water weight, though, right? And muscle weight from the extra days at the gym? The kind of weight that falls right off once my new dishwasher is installed? Right...?
i get home betwen 5-7 (Depending how the work day goes) and then i'm in my kitchen working until bedtime. usually this involves at least one trip to home depot, and home depot happens to be near many fine eating establishments, so i may as well grab dinner while i'm there, right?
absolutely!!! I can't imagine trying to work on my house after a long day of work.. . you go girl.... pick up something to eat and maximize your time while you're in the midst of your remodel... just don't burn out!!!

Toxigal - I've discovered your buffalo chicken dip is a miracle food, and I bet your could make that in the microwave Actually, I'm half serious about this. My kids loved it as a dip for vegies, and I used the leftovers over pasta and it was fantastic. Just added a little milk and blue cheese dressing to make it creamy, and voila! Can you cook pasta in a microwave?
Rotisserie chicken and salads are good foods during construction. The biggest problem for me was the dish-washing part, as my range was on for all but 2 weeks. But washing dishes outside the kitchen - bleh!
We're on the same team - honest! And my gym frequency this week has indeed fallen off last week's pace. (I didn't go last night after getting home from work at 11pm.) I have every intention of going today, though, if possible; and then picking up some take-out on the way home!
Which brings me to my next suggestion...if stopping during your HD run is your thing, by all means, go for it; but don't forget about the variety that speed dial can afford you! I have our local sushi, burrito and Italian restaurants on cell-phone speed dial in order to place pick-up orders. They know me by name, unfortunately, because of all the no-kitchen related orders I've placed with them in the past month.
Sorry for the eating-out enabling posts, which really isn't what you were asking for! But really, isn't it nice to know you're not alone?!
We ate tons of Cereal, toast, and Lean Cuisines... We ate out once a day which wasn't kind to either of our bodies...
I had a cholesterol test in the middle of the remodel and it was high for the first time ever. My doc tested me a month ago and it's low again... It was a little scary to realize how much crap we were eating though...

I hate eating out too much, so we planned ahead during the major part of our remodel. I seasoned all the meats we would cook on the grill, and we also prepared several meals and froze them. We had tons of frozen food, so except for the odd day when we bought ribs or chicken from SAMS we ate at home in plastic disposable dishes so clean up was a breeze.
Lots of prepared foods from Costco, Trader Joes, supermarket, etv that we could microwave. They all have way too much salt in them so our ears were ringing for most of the last year.
Living in So Cal we can grill all winter, so that was helpful. We love vegies, either in salad or hot form, so we ate lots of those, too.
The weight question is tricky. We did a lot (are still doing a lot) of the remodel and we have 60 stairs to our front door from the garage, so we get lots of exercise just getting into the house w/2x4s and 1/2" sheets of plywood....
