Hello there! My husband and I have decided to convert a 9.5' x 28' space in the basement into a sewing room. I am thrilled beyond words! Currently, I have a tiny bedroom as a sewing room and I am bursting at the seams. I would love to outfit this with Ikea cabinets. I downloaded the planner, and hope to play around some, but I would love to get ideas from you all. Thanks in advance!
Wow! That's a huge space. Yeah! I'd love to have a space dedicated to...well, anything! Welcome to the forums!
You may well want to look beyond just the Kitchen cabinets...the office lines (mostly EFFEKTIV) and the wardrobe units (PAX) are also pretty high quality and if you stick with Birch or Medium Brown or White, you can probably mix and match the 3 to get the pieces you want/need.
First, though...take a look at kmcg's thread about her craft/sewing room. Lots of ideas there. Then, give us an idea of your needs. Quilting suggests a sewing station, a large table, lots of drawers for fabrics...what else do you need/want?
this is something I covet every time I go to Ikea or open a catalog... Varde free-standing counter storage unit (in the kitchen section)
I envision it full of my stained-glass supplies... or fabric bits and sewing supplies, depending on which craft I am feeling more into at the moment. Oh, how I envy you your sewing room! Eventually I will have an office/craft room, too, in our basement, but until we have a garage, hubby gets the basement for storing his myriad tools...
I'm envious! I'd love to have a dedicated sewing area.
That VARDE unit would be perfect for fabric scraps. I'm a quilter too, and I think the in-drawer ironing board would be great to pull out right next to my sewing machine so it would be really easy to press seams as i go.
A few years ago I found a webpage where someone had modified the bjorkudden table to inset their sewing machine into, so they would have a nice flat surface to sew on. I bought that table with the hopes of doing it, but never have gotten around to it.
