I'm trying to find out if there is a way to get a few fabric swatches from IKEA. Did anyone do that before?
Closest store for me would be 4 hrs drive one way, but I have a friend who lives close to one.
I'm planning to sew curtains, so this should be something I really like, as I would need to live looking at it for a long time...
You mean a sample of the fabrics that they sell in Textiles, or samples of fabrics available for slipcovers, sofas, chairs, etc.?
I think if you're wanting samples of fabrics from Textiles, it will largely depend on your friend finding a friendly co-worker and convincing he or she to cut a small sample for you. It's not something that's typically available to my knowledge, and certainly not something you could order online.
As for samples for furniture fabrics, I've seen them in some IKEA stores, but not sure they're still available. Anyone inside care to comment?

Beware that the best of the textiles have a tendency sell out very quickly and

, out of stock fabrics can have sketchy future availability. It seems like there are a few prints every season that, unless you are on it and can grab them right away, sell out and are never to be seen again.
Also, if you set your heart on a large amount of a particular fabric you might be in trouble unless you can buy everything you need at that moment. Basically, I would only ever count on what is in the store on that particular day, and definitely plan carefully or buy extra vs. counting on being able to supplement later on.
