Ellen,
The question of stacking horizontal cabinets has come up alot. Here's something from another post I recently wrote:
There are two kinds of horizontal cabinets.
1) The horizontal cabinets with garage style doors (including glass doors) are either are 15" tall and 30 3/8" or 39 1/8" wide. Known as (solid door) WH3015, WHZ3915, (glass door) WGHZ3015, WGHZ3915
2) The fan/refridgerator cabinets do come in widths exactly 30" wide (the same width as the regular 30" wide wall cabinet). They do NOT use garage style doors however. For example, a WFR3015 is 30" wide and 15 1/4" tall. It uses two 15" x 15" doors.
Unfortuantely, AVSIKT and RUBRIK glass doors do not come in 15" x 15".
So, as Torrus noted, it's not possible to perfectly align horizontal cabs with garage style doors above your regular 30" wide wall cabinets.
However, you can stack the fan/fridge style cabs--they just don't work with garage style doors.
The garage style doors are actually exactly the same as regular doors. They just use an additional pair of Ferrari lifts to support the doors. And those hinges come with the WHZ/WGHZ cabinets.
As for combinations, you're in luck with ADEL Birch. It looks great with everything and
it takes paints beautifully. One of my favorite painted kitchens is
devonindustry's ADEL Birch kitchen. She painted the bottom cabs a rich dark grey. She's muralist and really knows paint!
Her kitchen is worth studying because she's managed to get horizontal garage style doors over her vertical cabinets. Maybe they're from a different line. She's mixing them with PERFEKT wine cubbies and the like too...
Check out
MonicaE's NEXUS Yellow Brown combined with AVSIKT and white side panels.
I'm combining ADEL MB with AVSIKT and ABSTRAK White.
I haven't peeled off the protective blue film yet but I've got white doors wrapped with ADEL MB panels in the dining area. I mounted wall cabinets as a floating sideboard.
