Help filling an empty space on my Wall above my couch
Help me fill an empty space on my Wall above my couch/ Looking to buy something at ikea that would match this couch to put on the wall. As soon as you enter my house and walk up the stairs to the living room this is the first thing you see. It is more like a waiting room couch I have other couch in the room that we watch TV from. I don’t want to put up any more shelf’s as I have some just off that wall in an other room. I don’t really have any colors in the room right now just earth colors. Any help would be awesome.
Re: Help filling an empty space on my Wall above my couch
I immediately pictured a couple of the long LACK shelvesone above the other and offset slightly, with a combination of framed prints, colorful vases and some books....but if you don't want more shelves, then I'd go for a diptych or triptych style painting (one painting done over multiple canvasses so when you hang them together they form the image).

You seem to be working with a neutral color scheme. One of my favorite tricks for adding interest w/o adding color is the use of mirrors. An added bonus is that they add dimension and expand the space. The key to using mirrors in a contemporary setting is to go bolder that you think you should. Right now, I'm enamored of the Mongstad mirror. At $149 it's a real bargain for the size. The dark color of the frame will pick up the colors in your bamboo. If that's too square for you, consider the round Vanna mirror. Much softer, but still edgy . Two of those side by side make quite a statement. On Deserving Design last week, Vern used 4 square frameless beveled mirrors about 24" square. I saw them at Ikea but, sorry, I don't remember the product name. Good luck.

I bought a tryptic set of art off Ebay and had it framed to fill a new wall after our kitchen remodel...

Those are nice too, Narf, but the ones I saw were Kolja. He mounted them with mastic, so they looked very clean. Although he did a four-square arrangement, over a long sofa, I'd mount three side by side. They're only $9.99 each.

Another thought soperson. Fabric. Find three canvas frames (or sale canvases) at a discount craft store (we have Michaels and Joann in the States). Cover with the coordinating Ikea fabric of your choice. Simply pull tight and staple to the frame on the back. Something like the picture below, only of a scale that works with your room. In this picture, the canvases are painted and pieces of coordinating ribbon are wrapped and stapled on them to get the graphic look. Even cheaper than fabric and endlessly changeable. Enjoy, I am...

Cloth is an excellent inexpensive idea. Vancouver should be a great place to obtain a real print--an etching, lithograph, woodcut, whatever by a local artist. A good place to look would be a nonprofit gallery (something similar to Print Arts Northwest in Portland, Ore.) or perhaps one of the museums. Or a textile hanging--bet there's plenty of textile artists around. Come to think of it, those clever Oregon pottery makers often provide their shallow bowls with wire support so they can be hung on walls.
You can also hang screens, ranging from Chinese wood windows to any number of Asian painted or carved ones.
