Re: Would like help with living room design

Much better sizes!

What are the measurements in...are they metric (meters) or imperial (feet and inches)?

I am thinking that you could use a couple of Karlstad sofas, a couple of nice armchairs, a rug, a coffee table and some side tables and lighting. That would give you lots of flexible seating. You could also use a sectional in a similar way. I am attaching a plan (not to scale) that shows what you could do.

Someone in your home is very precise...I am looking at your pictures on the wall and they are very carefully aligned. That tells me that you like symmetry and would be comfortable with furniture that is simpler in lines, like the Karlstad.

I think the furniture arrangement, with the sofas on those two walls and the chairs opposite, is really one of the best option for the space. Do you watch TV in this room, or is it strictly for social gathering? You could create a seating area to the left of the sliding doors with a couple of chairs and a table. You could also add a low bench all along under the windows. Keeping most of the furniture facing the view will really take advantage of that.

You also have some beautiful wood in your ceiling, so I'd recommend a color scheme that complements that. The Karlstad in green or yellow would be beautiful with your ceiling and floor. I'd love to see you get two of the sofas (that would seat six people) and a couple of armchairs over on that wall to the left of the sliding door.

Main seating, either two of these sofas and one or two of these chairs (they swivel)

or a sectional and chair

with this rug for the main seating area

Benches for under window (I would make new cushions)

Chairs for left of window area

I'd go with round or oval glass for a coffee table and an end table between the two chairs, and wood (similar to your ceiling) for end tables for the sofas. I'd also go with a wood base lamp for between the two chairs, and metal lamps for the end tables.

I'd add curtains to all the windows in a nice organic print and throw pillows with greens, oranges and yellows, like this print, on the sofas, chairs and along the benches.

Thanks for your email, I really appreciate all your effort
the measurments that we sent you are in meters..
I loved the idea of swivel chairs

I prefer loveseats and I love the color's idea yellow and green

the only thing that I fear is that Ikea's furniture will not be appropriate for old couple. I am planning to visit the florida's store around june.

I will love to keep receiving more details and suggestions.

thanks

Re: Would like help with living room design

I think the furniture I've shown you here you will find to be quite comfortable...we have the Karlstad sofa and frequently have elderly and people who have trouble with their knees and backs and they are all quite comfortable, getting in and out of the sofa is not a problem. There is one guy who will only sit on our Henriksdal counter stools, but I think that's because he's over 400 pounds and is afraid he will break anything that isn't made of solid wood. He actually did break one of the flimsy metal IKEA stools with a plastic seat that we had at church, so I am sure he's very cautious.

Enjoy your trip to IKEA!
