Re: Nexus Brown Black Cabs and Dark Flooring - ok?
I am thinking of doing the same thing (dark flooring, Nexus BB...), hoping to compensate with under-cabinet lighting, glass backsplash, and lighter choices for the rest of the kitchen in glass/aluminum, a warm-white cabinet choice, and oak countertops. Am I crazy for trying to coordinate all of these together?

I would check out the Siematic website under the Beaux Arts kitchen collection for some ideas. That line is the antithesis of matchy-matchy, and imo the kitchens they did look amazing. You might find a combo similar to what you are going for.

LOVE the look of those last pictures. I noticed you don't see any outlets. It reminds me of a kitchen I just saw in a magazine that would look amazing with that kitchen. The stainless backsplash extended up to the wall cabinets where the top of it had an upside down "U" shaped channel that went the length of the backsplash. Under that "U" was hidden the outlets and some lighting.
No outlets showing makes for a beautiful clean, contemporary look!!!!

I love those pics. Another poster is doing NBB with abstrakt white. She apparently had initially wanted NBB, but it was not available, so she did all abstrakt white in order to be able to finish her kitchen. Now that NBB is available, she is switching some of the cab doors to the NBB.
Re the outlets -- mine are going to be partially concealed, also. I am using an angled power strip in stainless steel, which is applied to the wall just under the cabs. I hate receptacles on a backsplash; it is a personal pet peeve of mine in part because my house had a receptacle seemingly every 2 feet when we got it. There were something like 14 in my dining room alone, and it is only 13 x 13 feet! And what do you plug in in a dining room, anyway, your hair dryer?!?
Re: Nexus Brown Black Cabs and Dark Flooring - ok?
I think that both of the pics you posted look great. It is all about balance, isn't it? Balance the dark with light elements, be sure you have enough (LOTS!) of natural light, keep the walls, ceiling, backsplash and countertops light, use plenty of light sources, and you are great. Dark wood looks so sophisticated. I wouldn't worry at all about dark floors and dark wood. I saw black painted cabinets in a magazine recently.
Have fun with your kitchen! The worst part is not really knowing how it will look until you install it, I think.

Yeap.... the last comment was bang on.
It's very difficult to picture anything in the house right now. It's an old house about 80 years old and most of the walls have been gutted to the brick.
It will be mostly a new house once it's done. We're also doing structural work too, removal of a a load bearing wall, new extention, etc.
It's both fun and frustrating at the same time. I never would have guessed how much can be involved when you go shopping for bathtubs, taps, etc. It makes you want to just go buy a house from a builder - already done. It may not have all the finishes you want, but at least it's there and you can see it.
We are buying the cabinets tomorrow night and will probably have them installed in about a month or so. I'll post pics for everyone to see.

Joe.
No kidding! You can spend ages just shopping for that stuff. You should see my collection of sample handles!
Doorstyle: nexus black brown (arrgh), avsikt frosted glass doors
Re: Nexus Brown Black Cabs and Dark Flooring - ok?
I just did a NBB kitchen, and while I have light wood floors, I think dark would look fine--especially if you incorporate some of the suggestions here re: white counters, stainless toekicks, etc. I saw a picture where someone used stainless top drawers (only) which made a very cool stripe around the top of the base cabinets.
I used Avsikt /glass wall cabinets with my NBB base cabs and love the way it looks.
Good luck with your choices.
