My kitchen is going to have Rubrik stainless doors on the base cabs and ebony-stained oak flooring. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cool toekick? I decided against the IKEA aluminum because the color appears light blue next to the steel and it also looks odd because it is not real metal )(which would probably be fine next to a different material but not when paired with steel doors). I do know of a place that can make a custom steel one, and am familiar with that Lexan steel-look stuff, either of which are decent contenders. I was just wondering if someone had an interesting idea I had not thought of.
I vote ss toekicks with undercabinet rope or LED lighting. I love that look.
You are an enabler, aka, a bad influence!! I love that also! In fact I already got a quote for the "around the toe" lighting, and my builder looked at me like I asked him to install a disco ball in the kitchen. My kitchen is at the end of a narrow hall from my foyer, so I think it would be cool to have toekick lighting, which you could see from the front door.
LOL, the mirror could help you find all the little dust bunnies when you sweep!
Love the lights idea!!! Another idea, depending on the length of your kitchen, would be to have the toekick match the flooring to give a long, illusion of your cabinets floating.
You should ask him to install a disco ball, then he'll be relieved when you settle for just the toekick lighting.
It's all about managing expectations.
Heh, you and our daughter (5) Elizabeth... She deperately wants a pet, but she's a negotiating prodigy so the conversation goes something like:
Mommy, Daddy, can I have an elephant for a pet please?
No.
I know... How about a zebra?
No.
Ok. A tiger would be good too...
No.
::big theatrical sigh::
Alright ::smaller sigh::, just a puppy then.
The final stage (the puppy) is phrased as a *statement* rather than a request. Clearly, she feels that she's already established in our minds that we WILL be getting a pet, it's just a matter of settling on the details at this point.
::shaking head::
OT I think it'd look really nice, installation shouldn't really be a big deal I would think. LEDs would use a lot less energy and last (lots) longer, rope lights would (I imagine) be less expensive and a snap to install. It'd certainly make an impression!

James, our daughters should start a law practice together, or maybe a used car dealership! Sometimes I really have to wonder what I've unleashed upon an unsuspecting world...
I like the idea of toekick lighting. Rope lights are a good thing!
How about using one of the self-adhesive stainless steel "films" -- then you can get IKEA toekicks and clips and everything, rollon your real-metal stainless, and not have the "fake" blue-ish look.
