Re: trim help (base, window sills, etc) to match Adel?

I didn't know what strand bamboo was either until I started doing some research and got some samples ... you're right ... it's another opportunity to learn.

I bought my bamboo from simplefloors.com. Here's a link to their website with the different types of bamboo that they have (the also have cork and other types of flooring). Bamboo Flooring - Prefinished Bamboo Floor Products, Discount Flooring Collection

click on the strand bamboo photo to get to a page which describes strand bamboo

you can order up to 5 free samples ... they have more types to choose from now and the prices have gone up some (to be expected)

Doreen,

Did they do the trim before the paint or the paint before the trim?

What did you do for doors; painted or stained?

strand bamboo

OK, I went to the site and I can't tell which are "strand" bamboo...there seems to be several designations. Did you glue, nail, float yours? We have a cement floor, so I guess we would need a moisture barrier. If they nail it then we'd need a wood bottom.

Looking for the toughest product for the lowest price. (smile, aren't we all)

I'm told laminate should go down AFTER cabinets, what about bamboo flooring?

Re: trim help (base, window sills, etc) to match Adel?

Back on my own thread; can anyone suggest the best product to put on good quality pine trim to match the Adel/Nexus cabinets? We are going to do natural baseboards, windows, and door trim.

Matt poly and satin laquer have been brought up. I am an ignoramous and don't know the benefits of either of these products.

THANKS!

Doreen, please help

Doreen....What are the thick panels that you I see in pic on either side of the 36" sink cab? Are they their for form or function? They look good and they might fit our scheme since I've a few extra inches. I am guessing this helps sturdiness of sink cab gtoo?

THANKS!

45]Hi again Terri - I'm pretty sure that they bought boards and built the trim from those boards ... I just tried to measure - and it's difficult to measure since it's ackward to get at and see accurately - the trim is almost an inch but not quite. I had two guys who did my entire remodel ... they are contractors - and know how to do electric, plumbing, flooring, carpentry ... and paid lots of attention to detail and did a fabulous job.

for baseboards I chose to use quarter round treated with linseed oil in most places ... where the bamboo meets the logs.

ask as many questions as you'd like ... that's what we're here for!

Re: trim help (base, window sills, etc) to match Adel?

Thanks! It's a Rev-a-shelf insert, I purchased at cabinetparts.com. (great customer service there, btw) It is 3" wide, it comes assembled and you hang it between 2 base cabinets- you just screw from the inside of the 2 neighboring cabs through the holes for the shelf pegs.

The funny thing is that it was a total afterthought-- I realized (very late) that I mismeasured the wall and had 5"+ of extra room, so I rush ordered this thing (with help/encouragement from some fellow Ikeafans) and voila!

The outside panel is a cut down adel door from As-is. Our carpenter sanded the corners a bit and covered the raw edge with clear laquer and it blends right in.

Re: trim help (base, window sills, etc) to match Adel?

Hi - those pieces of wood on each side of my sink base cabinet don't go all the way back for additional support ... they are filler -typically cover panels are used .. but in my case it's part of a cut down door that I'd bought in the as-is room. Those two as-is doors I bought in as-is (with glass panels) came in very handy for use for filler in my kitchen ... I've also got one of the rev-a-shelf spice pullouts and really really like it!

Re: trim help (base, window sills, etc) to match Nexus birch

My handyman has asked for an exact product to put on good quality pine base trim. I want it to match the Nexus birch as best as possible.

Can anyone recommend a Lowe's product (or other if necessary) that would do the trick?

THere's a thousand kinds of clearcoats, poly's, oils, laquers, and I am so confused!

Thanks

Terri
