2 Vättern sink cabinet Höllviken Oval Sink Questions I'm thinking of using a Vättern sink cabinet with a Höllviken oval sink in my bathroom re-do. Right now my has bathroom have single (UGLY) "vanity" that's installed in the corner, with the left side up against the side wall. Because the European style doors on IKEA cabinets extend to full width of the cabinet front I'm not sure they can be installed against a side wall. From all the installations I've seen in the store and catalogs, there's always a gap between the cabinet and side wall, but then again, I've seen a picture on this site that the cabinet appeared to be in the corner. Will the cabinet door that's closest to the side wall be able to open in it's installed against a wall? Also, My current vanity has a thee-inch high back-splash on the sides that are against the wall. Would something like this be necessary? My other question has to do with the Höllviken oval sink and the top of the Vättern sink cabinet. In store, there's no countertop on the cabinets with the sinks and you can see where the side panels of the cabinets attach to the cabinets. I don't know if this is just for display purposes but if it's not, it seems like it wouldn't hold up well with water splashing and it just looks unfinished to me so I want a countertop. I've found some really nice 1-inch square glass tiles, on 12" backing sheets, at Home Depot that would look fabulous under the Höllviken sink as a countertop. I've found online that one should use an underlayment of 3/4" exterior grade plywood with a layer of 1/2" backerboard (concrete or fiber cement) on top of it for a countertop, but I don't know if this would work under this sink. Does anyone know if it's possible? If it is, any suggestions on edge finishing? Would I just butt-joint the tiles to form the front and side edge of the counter?
