Question Paint Color Help

I'm going to paint my room within the next 2 weeks and I need some help. My walls have crown molding about a 2/3rds of the way down so its like this.
-----------top of wall

-----------crown molding
Wallpaper

------------floor.

I'm going to remove the wall paper then paint.
I'm going to paint the walls this color.
What color do i paint the crown molding? Do I just paint it the same color?

Re: Paint Color Help

Big warm welcome emerica9283

I am just a bit confused at your question - do you have crown molding where the wall and ceiling meet? Crown moulding is typically applied along the seams where ceiling meets wall.

or is it a chair rail between the upper portion of your wall and the lower portion. Chair rail is fixed horizontally to the wall around the perimeter of a room.

Just a few questions:
Do you have crown molding in the room?
Do you want the chair rail to pop? (meaning the eye is drawn immediately to it)

If you do not have crown molding but just the chair rail I might suggest just painting the wall colour. But that being said, as i do not know what room you are doing - some like to have the formality such as in a formal dining room to have white chair rail.

You could also subtly use a lighter version of the wall colour if you dont want it to pop off the walls but rather just highlight it.

I hope that helps you some.

Once again, big warm welcome.

Re: Paint Color Help

Hi emerica, Welcome!
I can see why you wouldn't call it a chair rail since a chair would never hit that high. Crown usually touches the ceiling though. Whatever the molding is called, you could paint it the color of the other trim in the room to make it stand out, or paint it the same color as the wall to make it less noticeable. Either way will look great. Good luck with the wallpaper removal. I just rid my dining room of it and even though it was a lot of work, it looks SO much better! You've picked a really nice color. Let us know how it's working out.

Re: Paint Color Help

As a rule, the chair rule is considered part of the woodwork and painted the same color as the baseboards, window trim, door trim, or the doors if you don't have trim. Alternatively, for a more modern look, paint it the same color as the painted wall, only using a semi-gloss paint.
