Hello everyone, I have been silent on this board for a while as the obsession with finishing the kitchen has grown. I hope to be able to post before and after pictures soon!

I was originally going to put one of the wall/fold down tables in our kitchen but now think some sort of breakfast bar would be a better choice - probably about 36cm wide. Anyone had any luck on making one of these or repurposing some Ikea shelving?

Make sure the shelf is deep enough for plates and cups to go on...the typical 11-12 inch deep shelf won't be enough.

This reply may be too late, but what I learned in design school is that a breakfast bar recommended depth is 15". If you have a cabinet side or back in front of your feet this allows room to sit on a bar and not crunch your toes agains the cabinet. I've done as little as 13 1/2" in a tight corridor, but would not recommend going any less than that.
