I bought the Ribba Frames today from my local Ikea in hopes of doing a gallery wall in my house.
Because the price was so right, I didn't even think to check out what size pictures fit in the frames! (Yes, I am an idiot)
Anyhow- the small frame fits a 5x7 pictures (no problem there). The medium sized frame fits an 8 1/4" x 10 3/4" picture- and the large sized from fits an 11 1/2 x 15 1/4 picture. Most picture sizes aren't going to fit in these frames.
Has anyone used these frames before? Any ideas on how to make this work for me?
Wow, I really know what you mean. I bought the square Ribba frames (not rectangular) and I can't, for the life of me, find a standard photo size that will fit the mat. My Swiss husband said the the mat sizes are probably standard European sizes, but even when I go on to the European photos sites, you can't find photos sizes that fit. The frames are cheap, but if I have to have special mats cut for the photos, I loose the benefit of the cheap price.
If anyone has found a solution, I'd love to hear it.
I have the large square ones too and do not have a solution. Right now I have pics in the frames that do not fit properly and I've been searching on and off for a year on a solution!
I guess I could frame things other than photos (nice fabric, leaves, meaningful items etc), but I really bought them to showcase some of my amateur photography.
Custom matting seems to be the only solution for this.
Yay, I've found a quick and easy solution for my large square Ribba frames! Costco prints 12x12 which is perfect for pictures to fit inside the mat.
I discovered it yesterday very late at night, sent through my pics online to Costco and they were ready to be picked up this morning. My new art is on the walls now.
Message for ted: I like to use online photo printing sites and printing onto a 16x20" piece of paper would result in my image being too large for the 12'x12' frame. essentially, i compose my photos in my camera while I shoot so there isn't a lot of extra room to crop! anyway, thanks for the idea... Susan
