I am having a hard time telling from pics how stainless Numerar Aluminum Effect ends up looking.
I was inspired by Lisa's kitchen, and the stainless steel sink cabinet top she has. Hubby doesn't want a stainless steel sink, so if I were to do something simlar, I would need to have a stainless sink area, and a drop-in sink (actually, I would look a Domjso sink in a stainless sink area).
So then I was looking at the Numerar aluminum effect counter, and wondering how aluminum that effect looks. Does it look stainless? Or would I be better off finding another source for real stainless?
I like the Numerar would match up height-wise with the Oak Numerar we are considering for the rest of the counters. We could just use the little gap-bridge pieces to connect them, too...
I don't think the Numerar Aluminum Effect is going to like stainless. If you want stainless, you should check with local metal-working shops. You can probably get something fabricated relatively inexpensively (not IKEA inexpensively, but granite/corian/marble inexpensively) to your precise requirements. Bear in mind that it WILL scratch and scratch and scratch until it achieves a loverly patina. Those first few scratches freak some people out, but there's really no avoiding it, especially in a sink area.
Can I ask what

His comments were that stainless steel sinks were "noisy". I can't argue since I have never owned or used a stainless steel sink outside of a commercial environment. I would think it has to do with the quality of the stainless steel sink, and how well installed it is. But I don't know, rightly.
It has to do with two things...one is the quality or the gauge of the stainless -- I think the lower the number (i.e. 18/8 or 18/10) the higher the gauge and the better the quality.
The other factor is insulation. Most cheapo stainless sinks are just that...cheapo stainless sinks. The ones that are worth looking at have a coating on the bottom of the bottom and sides of the bowl(s) that reduces sound. I've also heard that you can
DIY
this with something...don't remember what. ??? Anyone?
Of course, he may just not like the sound of things clinking on metal and for that there's nothing you can really do. Tell him to stick his fingers in his ears? Works for my kids...
Hi! I've had a stainless steel sink, and it didn't seem loud to me- no louder than the porcelain sink I have now that it is too small to put anything in.
I have the stainless steel look numerar countertops in my "test" kitchen- it looks nice with stainless steel, but does not look like stainless steel. I knew stainless steel, and you, numerar, are not stainless steel.
It is very subtle and I kinda like it, though. I've tried to take pictures of it, but its like a magical chameleon- or maybe a vampire- no image.
I have a deep stainless sink, and it was cheap, and it's not particularly noisy! But, I think the $64,000 question is....DOES HE DO THE DISHES???
Because if he doesn't, then he doesn't need to worry about the noise! And if he does, well, then whatever makes him happy and keeps him doing the dishes is what I would recommend.
I would say the "aluminum" effect is not very stainless looking. I don't mind the look, but the only part that looks mostly stainless is the edging because it is an aluminum edge banding. The top is a grey colour and does not look like stainless at all. I like the fact that it has square edges rather than a bulnose, and it is a little thicker looking than most laminates, but if you want something that actually looks like stainless then I would look for something else, or go to a fabricator.
The answer to that question is yes! I have one of the miraculous models of husbands that actually does dishes! And to add to the reasons to be jealous of me, he especially enjoys it when I go out of town, and he gets to clean the house and do all the laundry so I can come home to a nice clean house, and often rubs my feet or hands while we watch TV.
The tradeoff may be a porcelaine sink. May be woth the trade-off.
LOL
