I am missing about four Hallarum panels, and I am thinking of trying to make due with what I have and finding a creative or custom made drawer faces to go with the Hallarum finish. Does anybody have suggestions about what kind of finish to use? I like the look of stainless, but I have two little girls and their fingerprints will get all over it. Any ideas?

Well, of course the first thing that came to mind was stainless. IKEA is making them now - is it called RUBRIK?- but they are only available in limited sizes. If your missing doors are on the upper cabs you might also want to consider the frosted glass doors with the metal frames (Don't remember what they are called. How do these people remember that stuff?).

Depending on your appliances and counters, a glossy black door may look very nice, as well.

I don't know either, but I suspect we're bonkers. I know for sure that I can no longer remember phone numbers, which was formerly my claim to fame. Knowing IKEA trivia isn't nearly as useful IRL, but it's certainly more interesting in mixed company (that is, IKEAFANS and NON-IKEAFANS).

FWIW, I have stainless on the Advantium, fridge and dishwasher (no new range yet), and two kids 4 and 5 years old. So...the stainless doesn't look perfect all the time, but it's pretty easy to clean up with a bit of stainless polish. I've even seen an entire island in stainless at IKEA and it looked great -- you know they aren't there polishing it every second. You might consider getting one front and putting it out to be fondled and see how it goes.

I'm assuming you have seen the "Hallarum needs and haves" post in the swaps and exchanges forum, right? Otherwise it looks like there are some good ideas here.

If you need filler or cover panel-type plywood (unfinished edges, though), I found some plywood locally called Appalachian Cherry. It's a very good match to Hallarum. And depending on where you appply it, the General Finishes "Mahogany" gel stain is a pretty good match.

We used Adel MB for toe kicks and you can't tell the difference from the Hallarum toe kicks. My contractor is trying to do some staining today with a mixture of Mahogany and cherry to match the Hallarum. I will let you know how it comes out.
