I have a few sets of these and it's now apparent to me why they're so marvelously cheap: the transformers are the most poorly built things I've ever seen: one shipped with the fuse having melted into its plastic casing (so trying to retrieve it and replace it only ripped the sautered wire out of it) and another, having worked until its fuse blew, had the plastic screw cover over the fuse break apart when I tried to unscrew it (which means no gettin' that fuse out!).

I live several hours away from the nearest store (Atlanta) and even though the cost of one of these sets is less than buying just the three halogen bulbs in a regular store, it seems a shame to buy new sets with all the wire and fixtures just to be able to replace the cheapo transformers. Looking around online I can't find a good 120V/12V transformer that's anywhere near comparably priced: does anyone have similar experience with this product (other than telling me to ask about a return)?

I am fairly certain you can buy any 12 volt transformer and use it. If your Sansa has three 20 watt lamps you need a 60 watt transformer. If you are intrested I saw one on eBay for less than $10. Item #330193390270
