Greetings - I'm in the market for new bedroom stuff (I.E duvet covers, sheets, etc) and wondered if anyone had any personal experience w/the IKEA things.
Are the 'quilt covers' the same as duvet covers - will they fit over a traditional comforter or no?
How's the quality? Do they hold up with normal use or do you find they're less durable than items purchased other places?
Anything you can tell me about their textiles would be greatly appreciated!
I buy most of my bed linen from Ikea as all our beds are Ikea too. There is a difference in quality but it is reflected in the price so it's easy to spot even if they don't have the duvet cover on display (rare). Anything with SATIN like Alvine Satin, for example, will be exceptionally soft and durable wash after wash. I have one of their brightly colored duvet sets from 5 years ago and the colors are still bright and there are no signs of wear at all. The lower priced stuff will still wear well but the thickness and threadcount will be lower than other styles.
Tip: I use their cheap beige cotton pillow cases as pillow protectors for my spare pillows. It keeps their shape and keeps them dust free.
We had always tradionally bought the very very best when it came to sheets, very high thread count, hundreds of dollars. When our last set gave out, we decided to get the cheapest sheets we could find (SOVA), as a short term measure until we could save up to get the good stuff again.
It's been a year now... we haven't had to replace them yet, despite all the 'high quality' brands we got lasting only six to nine months before falling to little balls of fluff.
As for quilt covers though, there is a definite increase in quality for price. I see that the cheaper end have a tendency to rip under display conditions.
I admit it...I am a sheet snob. I must have a minimum of 400 thread count Egyptian Sateen. I am like the princess and the pea, I can instantly tell when the sheet is not what I am accustomed to LOL I am otherwise practical in my life, so I am at a loss to explain this prediliction, but there it is.
The IKEA duvet covers fit the indicated size comforters, as long as they are not oversize or overstuffed.
We have the Andrea Satin (in the red colorway) quilt cover, and it fit our down comforter just fine. i love that it is washable, as we have kitties who like to get all snuggled up in it. It is super soft, and the color stays vivid.
As for sheets we have one set of Tupplur (it is hard to find grey sheets!) and two sets of Vila. We love them. Especially the Vila, the only problem with these, is that we don't want to get out of bed they are so very comfy.
Three years on the Tupplur and one set of Vila, and they still look great. In fact they are wearing better than many of the pricey sheets I previously purchased.
I really want a set of the new Gaspa sheets...they are so smooth, and the sheen is lovely.
