HELP! Choosing Granite Color for Adel Birch/Stainless Steel!
We had our hearts set on Black Galaxy granite, but it seems that the shipment isn't that great this time around here.. And now, we're kind of at a loss for which granite slab to choose. We are having Adel Birch cabinets put in, with all stainless steel appliances.
Should we go for Emerald Pearl? Or Blue Pearl? Or something else??? We figured white-ish granite would wash out our small condo's kitchen. Any thoughts??
hi dorice, we're also planning on adel birch and stainless appliances and have yet to pick out what granite we're going with . Maybe i can help - the design stage is my favorite part.
Some things to consider are the other elements going in your space - your wall colors, your flooring, etc.? I've designed our space with mostly cool greens/blues & warm grays/ambers (looks fab with steel and the birch) so i'll probably look for something that has some warmth to it (which will also look great with the cork floor we're planning on). i've heard that having your horizontal surfaces complement each other really ties things together, ie; floors and countertops. I don't think it's a hard and fast rule but probably a nice design trick. The black galaxy granite is gorgeous - it's too bad you aren't able to get it. How about absolute black? I think the blue pearl is also nice - depending on what else you're putting in there. But it looks like all the slabs you mentioned would have great contrast with light birch (i wouldn't do the white granite!)
Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply. I LOVE your pictures by the way - love the tiles, color, everything! We are much more boring - have birch laminate flooring from Costco, pale baby blue walls. We will probably be sticking with Emerald Pearl and hope that it comes out well!
I have AB and Nexus birch, so you can get an idea of what that would look like in my pix. Emerald Pearl would be nice, but I think if you have blue walls you will not want to add a green to the mix. Although Uba Tuba reads black, so that might work. It has coppery flecks, though, which might clash with the stainless. We wanted Galaxy Black originally but the shipment wasn't expected for four months, so we went with AB. Blue Pearl might be nice, or a paler blue-gray granite with some movement. I've seen some but I don't know the name of it.
Doorstyle: Lidingo Doors (Kitchen/Bath), Numerar Oak (Waterlox)
If you're thinking of staying in the black realm, you might look into Black Pearl. I posted two pics in the Gallery of our India Black Pearl granite installed in our <almost> finished kitchen with Lidingo cabinets. It's a great neutral color with natural colored flecks up-close and a solid black appearance from far away.
Of the Emerald or Blue Pearl Granite I would lean towards the warmer toned Emerald with your Adel Birch cabinets.
Take a look at Boykster's photos he's recently posted on the Intro thread Hi from Seattle, Wa - have to get him to upload!

I'll get around to uploading one of these days
We have oak flooring, nexus birch cabinets and installed Sapphire Blue granite. The sapphire blue has some nice natural beige and brown tones that tie well with the natural wood color of the birch. My wife initially was dead set on getting Blue Pearl, but after looking at the birch, we decided it would be nice to tie the counters into the floor and doors a bit
Here is a pic from that welcome thread that shows the overall look. It has a slight yellow cast to it in this picture, but you can get an idea of the combo.
