Greetings - I selected this color paint (don't know the name) that you see on the wall behind the couch. I really liked it because it seemed it would compliment the kitchen cabinet colors.
We're doing a test-wall because painter-dood and I think it might be TOO close to the same color!
The ONLY time you'll see both the wall color AND the cabinets together is from this view. The other 2 walls will have other furniture, opposite the kitchen, so I guess I want to know what ya'll think?

We have a few choices:
1. change the color completely - to what, I have NO idea!
2. Do a lighter wash/texture/faux finish over this, to lighten up this color
3. Do a MUCH lighter version of this color as a base, then use this as the faux finish/wash/texture color.
4. sell the house and MOVE!
Thoughts? Hmmm....I'm glad the pink is gone. As for the paint, I kind of like it! I think it frames the view of the kitchen. What I can't tell is if it looks like you were trying to make it look like a cover panel and failed. What's the wall texture and paint sheen like?
Hey now, it was actually a pale peach on top, darker peach on the bottom, separated by a white rail thingie...it wasn't as crappy as it looked in the before pictures.
I know I wasn't trying to create a cover panel, but I sure don't want it to look like that...I'm going to look again during the day tomorrow, maybe snap some more pics and think about that aspect too!
BTW
I stole the previous peach/peach combo directly from a Behr paint brochure! I am not accountable dangit!
LOL
just kidding! It was actually too 'pastel-y' for me and EVERYONE loved it....just goes to show ya, no accounting for taste or lack thereof...mine!
Oy - my mistake! Just goes to show - there's no accounting for monitor color interpretation! I have two monitors and things look vastly different from one to the other. Guess I need to do a calibration!
Take a few more pics in the light of day and see what you think then. I don't think it's bad, but I can't tell about texture/sheen.
from what i can tell in the pictures, i like it! you need a darker color like that behind your sofa to balance out the light leather - it looks really grounded now (pink wasn't doing so much for ya...) And, i think it ties nicely to your cabinets and picks up the warm tone that you have painted in the kitchen. good job - i think it's a great color choice. cheers! devon
ps - what finish is the paint? i tend toward satin or eggshell (not flat), and think that most faux finishes are on their way out of style...except maybe the most simple of the simple (subtle colorwashing, strie, etc.) oh, and i'm a muralist by the way - i work with paint every day!
I don't get alot of natural light and it's not super-sunny here today, so here's a
pic
of the color in question during the day, with my overhead light on (which is NEVER is)!
Pictures in the daytime
Here's a closeup of the wall so you can see (sort of) the texture (cross-hatch) and the slight shine (not flat) of the paint. Excuse the flash - without it, it's a dark blob!

I found two samples at Lowes (they were out of the granite crystals that's added to the paint to create the texture) and I'm considering them. One is Citrine with granite crystals (probably 3-5 shades lighter than this color shown here with some gritty feel to it (the granite) and a little coppery shine. The other one is basically a light color (they call it smoky quartz) with granite crystals that add the grit and sparkle.
Do you think that type of faux finish is going to date the house? I really would rather shy away from anything that's going to scream 2007 because I can't honestly imagine EVER doing anything to this house again before I croak!

i find that what doesn't 'date' are the more simple styles or something that hasn't yet been replaced by something better (like granite coutners). too much texture, sheen, pattern are all things that our eyes can get tired of over the years - much more so than simple smooth walls. if you already have texture, it's best (i think) to just work with it but not add more to it. so i would do a satin or eggshell finish paint without anything added to it. but...having said that, i think that if you love a particular look that you've found you should do it - it's your home! but know that you may get tired of it over time and feel compelled to revisit it (before croaking!)
oh, and i think darker colors painted in spaces that don't get that much light are perfectly fine if you balance it out with more lighting. if you still feel like a color is too dark you could always go a shade lighter and it would still probably do all the other nice things the darker shade was doing (

; tying in with cabinets and kitchen colors).
