Has anyone used cork flooring in their kitchen? I'm considering it. Actually considering it through the rest of my condo except for the bathroom. I've heard that it's not recommended in the kitchen but then I've seen cork flooring installed in kitchens on remodeling shows. I love the idea of the durability it offers as well as the softness. Can someone who's installed it give me some feedback on how they like it? Thank you. Paula
There has been a couple people that have installed cork flooring in their kitchen on this site. I'm actually in the process of installing it in our kitchen.
If you type cork flooring into the search window, you will see some pictures of cork flooring.
I know Susan used cork and loves it! I came really close to using cork, but decided on hardwood for the look I was going for. It's a very cool material!
We had cork in our old kitchen (sold the house after 3 years with the new flooring). We loved it and plan to do it again! Ours was not an eat-in kitchen so I can't say how it does with chairs and tables. It was fabulous for standing for long times. Dropped glasses broke on the darn granite counter much more easily than on the cork floor! It was easy to keep clean--just like a hardwood floor. It got a reasonable amount of use because I do cook and we had to walk through the kitchen to go outside. We did have a small child for part of the time we had the floor, but no pets.
We diyed it. It was a floating/glueless click floor. I am just a helper, but DH says it was a very easy project and he's looking forward to laying the new floor in the new kitchen.
Ours was APC brand purchased from www.ifloor.com We were happy with both the company and the flooring. We are not using them this time just because we like a sample from jelinek better for the new house.
Yes! We have cork - have had it for over 2 years and we're still thrilled with it. It hasn't faded, scratched or dinged. It's rich and warm and just plain gorgeous. We used NaturalCork's Moreno floating floor and we DIYd it. It was quick and simple and the results are fabulous. Check online for good deals - we found out later we could have saved several dollars per square foot, but we uncharacteristically didn't do our research (could have had something to do wiht the threat of asbestos....I don't know) and paid too much. Ah, well...supporting local business is good.
It's ironic that the Similar Threads feature only works after you post your thread - if you check the bottom of this page, you should see links to some other threads regarding the subject of cork - I know I posted at length in at least one. I'd do so again, but I have a migraine and need to conserve energy.

We only used cork in our masterbath. Glue down tiles to deal w/the moist environment. Hubby did the install w/a GIANT bucket of glue that was the consistency of peanut butter. We got APC brand, also.
I'm not using the bathroom full time yet, but after walking onto it from the hardwood that's throughout the rest of the downstairs it feels like heaven. It also is an AWESOME insulator and it super warm on my tootsies when we turn on the radiant floor heat. Ahhhh.
