Here is my mom's bathroom update. We went with the dark wood STENSKÄR cabinetry instead of the modular VÄTTERN/ ANORDNA system. We also went with a oval tilting mirror to better show off the fabulous Restoration Hardware lighting sconces.
I know the toilet is the first thing you see when you walk in, but that's just the way it has to go. Also, that intrusion on the space is the chimney chase that vents the furnace.
So here is the overhead view. The wall missing has a 4'x4' window in it.

We were sorry not to get the red floor, but that led us to switch to dark cabinetry instead of white. We bought the upper wall cabinet to go over the short cabinet, but we're not sure we'll use it. Now I've done the sketch up, I pretty sure we won't.
I love the changes you made - both in the layout (not as much storage as before but it looks sooooooo much better!) and in the switch from the white cabs to the darker cabinets ... those look really really nice with the other design choices you've made.
I love the mosaic tile ... how much did you end up purchasing ??? I have a huge shower in my upstairs bathroom - that has tile on the floor, three walls and the ceiling - right now its' white tile and I'd like to re-do it at some point. I was interested to see that you did the glass tiles on the floor on one wall of the shower - w/ the glass surrounds on the other two shower walls. It's going to be stunning.
You are a master of sketch-up... I'm sooo envious ... haven't had a chance to go back to it and play around w/ it and your tutorials.... I love what you can do with it!!!

The only suggestion I can think to make is above the higher cabinet, it seems a little empty. A plant, sculpture, or something would finish it off nicely.
Thanks guys. Your right about the top of that tall cabinet. This line of cabinets isn't nearly as tall as the modular units so it leave a gaping hole. Maybe a whole set of different sized apothacary jars filled with useful things like qtips, cotton balls even small natural sponges - with a tall jar for sure. Restoration Hardware had tons of these.
I like the cabinets so much better and by switching styles, I didn't have the debate with my mom about storage - there just isn't as many options with this.
And aren't the sconces great - I just love them - especially with the two adusting points to get good light no matter how tall you are or aren't.
And remember - free Sketch-up lessons to anyone who wants them!!!
I'd be a little concerned about accessing the cabinetry, since there's not much room in front of it (2 ft?). You could stand in that space, but not open the drawers/doors, or you could open the drawers/doors but not stand in front of the cabinet. Maybe workable with the drawers (lean down and reach in from the side), but are you going to be able to open the left-hand door and reach what's behind it?

It is definitely going to be tight - but it would be empty otherwise. That chimney chase has a 2x4 firred wall on it with drywall. What I thought we'd do, is rip it off and just screw concrete backerboard to the grey brick then tile. I figure we could gain up to 3 inches on each side. I think that little bit will make a big difference.
