Where do I start?

I love projects but I also have a best friend named procrastination and when we meet up-nothing ever gets done. I would like to design my office space or turn it into a funky guest room. I think I am leaning more toward the office space but I have no clue where to start. I have a few IKEA pieces in there already that I would like to keep and a few I will get rid of. Where should I begin? I tried using the planner tool and I am not getting it.

Re: Where do I start?

I'd recommend starting with a list of your goals for the room - e.g. a mission statement - how you would like to use the room, the feeling you're going for ... and then being to plan the layout (so you can make sure the room you design fits your overall objectives.). I know that's hard to do ... I haven't used the office planner so I don't have any hints or tips for you.

You could try using google sketch-up instead of the planner - there are some wonderful tutorials' here that Zuess has created. She does amazing things with sketch-up - which has a free download.

Hope this helps...

Re: Where do I start?

Definitely think about all the functions you need the room to support, as well as the amount of time you'll be spending in it doing those things. Then take good measurements of everything in the room, noting the window sizes, electric outlets etc. and draw it out on the computer or a piece of paper. Post that here and you'll get more ideas than you can possibly imagine LOL

You can certainly do a home office/guest room combo by using some pieces that can do double duty. I did my guest room with Mysinge sofas and Pax wardrobes, and added a Fusion table and chairs. It functions for many different purposes this way!

Browse through the galleries for some inspiring pictures, too.
