Colour for my foyer

I'm working on repainting my foyer, stairs and upstairs hallway this week and I wouldn't mind some opinions.

My living room is light green, and my dining room has a red accent wall. The living room and dining room are seperate but are connected by the foyer. What colour should the foyer be?

Should i match it to the living room, or should i match it to the dining room or should I decide on a completely new colour scheme?

It's currently a dark green right now, but it's a small space and with the dark colour it feels a little imposing.
Any help or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Colour for my foyer

If you can see the living room from the foyer, I'd go with a lighter shade of the green...maybe two shades lighter on the card. Otherwise, you'll probably want to go with a neutral, I'd suggest a grayed taupe in a light hue.

Re: Colour for my foyer

Thanks, Eva

I considered doing a lighter green, but a neutral might be nice as well if i just wanted to do something "different" instead of trying to unite the two rooms somehow.

Re: Colour for my foyer

I love the idea of a lighter shade of the green... or a darker shade. I have an open floor plan, and I did the "living room" in a slightly darker shade and the "dining room" (separated on the connecting wall by a fireplace) in a lighter shade. Although it's not always noticeable, and mostly people think the "rooms" are the same color, the shading makes the "dining room" seem lighter and brighter -- different without being different.

I think this kind of monochromatic color play fits a modern setting (like mine), but could also be a subtle element in other styles.

Re: Colour for my foyer

Update!

I spent last week painting my foyer and priming the stairs. The steps have not yet been painted, but the trim and the risings has (just glossy white). I've decided on an yellowish off-white colour for the walls. I really considered painting a lighter hue of green but I decided I did not want my house to have a dominant colour. (The outside siding is light green as well).

I'm really happy with how it turned out. It does seem to open up a lot more space and give the area more light and it really needed it. The dark green was a little suffocating.

I hope to have pics soon when the steps are painted. I'd have loved to fill this space with Ikea furniture but I think my mom would be offended if i got rid of her antiques.

In Ikea news, my boyfriend was nice enough to take me Ikea shopping (the nearest store is 1/2 hr drive away from me) but nothing I wanted was in stock.
