Have everything picked out

Hi All,

Some of you will be very familar with my ongoing saga if we are going to put an addtion on or renovate - from my earlier post today that updated you all I have spent the entire evening planning all the elements....I am so excited to get this project going...

The only choices still pending....backsplash - thinking beadboard and paint colour....

Can you please have a look-see and let me know your thoughts?

I am trying to acheive a cottage beach house timeless "somethings gotta give" inspired space.

Do you think you can see that happening with what I have chosen here:

thanks so much
Deb

Re: Have everything picked out

Deb, I love the elements you've chosen! I don't know what other colors you have going on in adjoining rooms, but I see a very cool, grayed blue with those elements for a sophisticated, vintage beach-cottagey thing. I think you have it nailed!

Susan

Re: Have everything picked out

Oh man I just noticed something.

The sink is not centered under the window......

If I hang that to-die for pendant light centered in the window it will not line up with the faucet?? Do you think that would look odd?

thanks

Re: Have everything picked out

To be really simplistic, the SGG kitchen has Oil-Rubbed bronze cups pulls and hinges, white subway tile, ss appliances and dark matte countertops (soapstone, but there are other choices)- and surprisingly, an undermount sink. I love all your choices and think you'll create a lovely space. If you're really into the SGG kitchen's look, I'd keep the contrast of the ORB against the white wherever possible and do the white subway tile backsplash.

Re: Have everything picked out

Thanks Susan - great minds thing alike - I was searching online for a colour very similar - then it hit me - I fell in love with a RH colour a long time ago but really had nothing to go with it - until now...

it is called silver sage and pretty sure this is the colour i am going to choose....Note - the sofa is from their marketing page.

Have been searching for a BM colour to match this RH colour as I am a die hard BM fan.

Got this from HGTV website - RH's Silver Sage is BenM's Gray Wisp 1570. No other "silver sage" in any other brand is a match to RH's.

Thanks Kellybmw - I just kind of wanted that open beachy feeling that the SGG kitchen gave me looking at it - I would KILL to have that space - and since I am dealing with such a tiny tiny space I wanted some sparkle with the chrome and glass knobs. We are going with a beadboard backsplash as a temp measure in case I must blow out the kitchen - hubs and i are going to review in one year to see how the new layout with organized space works - and then maybe upgrade to granite (depending on how the wood counters hold up) and tile the backsplash - going with beadboard as it will be easier to take down if we do put the addition on.

thanks again
Deb

Re: Have everything picked out

I hope you know I think your space will look beautiful with the items you've selected!

The beadboard will look great- and there was quite a bit of beadboard in that movie house's dining room! I had a beadboard backsplash in my old house and I loved it!

Re: Have everything picked out

The schoolhouse pendant looks like something from Rejuvenation of Portland, Oregon. In such an informal space, I doubt that it matters much that it be symmetric with the sink.

I was a bit puzzled by the glass top cabinet at the corner between the window wall and the stove wall--have you figured out a door for it? Or will it only partially open? (I haven't read earlier info to find explanation). Kind of fun to helicopter around the middle of the kitchen, looking down at everything.

Re: Have everything picked out

Thanks so much Kellybmw

I just looked at the photos again - thanks for the link - If we ever do an additon those photos are in my inspiration folder...I think that is my dream house....

How did you seal your beadboard? I am thinking just kitchen and bath paint and caulking at the seam of the butcher block - hubs is mentioning that we should probably seal it after painting??

I am still wondering though if that sink not centered will look funny with that faucet not centered over the pendant light fixture that will be centered in the window. Told hubs about it and he raised an eyebrow and told me he was going out to the garage....<smile> that is his non-verbal of "enough already"....

thanks again - so excited!!!

Hi Dave,

In order to avoid having a corner cabinet I am making my own blind corner - Only one door will open the perpendicular cab will butt up against it with trim. I can only use an 18" door if we are going with glass which will leave a black hole area of 22 ". If we go with a solid door I am thinking of a 21" or 24" door - we are going to wait and see how it works when we install in order to determine which door we are going to use and/or which one we can use. I was hoping to have glass on either side of the window but for space issues will most likely use a 24" solid door with a back hole area of 6".

Hope that explains the wonky area.

Deb

Re: Have everything picked out

I would caulk it and I wouldn't seal it. You'll have to repaint periodically if you keep it. But, its beadboard. It's kinda a weathered thing. Behind high use zones, you could use tempered glass in front of it- like behind range and sink...

I always think of fabulous butler's pantries when I see smaller kitchens in this style- I don't think it has to be particularly big to be particularly stunning! Sometimes bigger is just bigger...
